About Me

Once upon a time, not so long ago, Margaret had a daughter. She called her Adri-Mari or Ami for short. Fast forward 20 odd years and Margaret's Daughter has established herself as one of South Africa's top up&coming singer / songwriters. Along with indie producer / multi-instrumentalist Etienne Ghyoot, they are constantly recording in Etienne's "home studio" (read: spare bedroom connected to his PC). Incorporating different musicians as the need arises, the Margaret's Daughter moniker has become synonymous with great music; be it Ami on her own, Ami & Etienne as a duo or even as a full band. Whichever way they perform, one thing remains constant: Ami's timeless music and unique voice, accompanied by her rhythmic acoustic guitar playing.

Ami is Margaret's Daughter, really! She's in charge of vocals, rhythm guitar and percussion, specifically the djembe drum.

Etienne is not Margaret's Daughter. He's not her son either. He just knows her pretty well. He plays guitars, violin, keys and does backing vocals.

Influences: Heather Nova, Sarah McLachlan, KT Tunstall, Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, Natalie Merchant, Tracy Chapman, Jennifer Knapp, Dido, Collective Soul, Annie Lennox, K's Choice, Natalie Imbruglia, Sting, Live, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac, Tori Amos.

I guess everything that we listen to influences us in some way, so this list could go on forever, because we listen to almost anything! But I think you'll find a tiny piece of all of these artists somewhere in there...
