BIG OL ASS
I WANNA MARRY JUANA
Born January 4th in Harlem, New York, UniBomber aka Uni-B is no stranger to music and its influences. A DJ for WBLS, his father would fill the house with all kinds of music, from James Brown, to Earth Wind & Fire to Steve Wonder. He was raised in Hempstead, Long Island and attended Holy Trinity High School. He excelled in sports playing on the varsity teams in both football and basketball.Naturally along with all the music giants, the element of hip-hop was buzzing in his ear. Commercial successful artist such as Michael Jackson, Big Daddy Kane, and Kool Moe Dee were dominating the charts. It was during this time that he started hear a different kind a music. Groups like Cyrpress Hill and Public Enemy brought a different element and feeling to hip-hop with lyrical content that was thoughtful and beats that just grabbed you. This type of rage filled hip-hop and appealed to UniBomber on a street level. Finally there was someone speaking to the disenfranchised youth of Black America.. Ultimately, what brought it together for Uni-B, was Kris Kross. I heard them and saw them in a video and they were about the same age as me. I thought to myself, if they can do this thing, so can I. This is when he began writing and perfecting his skills. As time went on, he performed and won the talent show on the Queen Latifah show as well as a winner of 106 & Parks Free Style Friday, placing him in the Free Style Friday hall of fame. These appearances led him to other opportunities, one of which was a small role in the move Gully, staring Tyson Beckford. He sees the movie business definitely in his future. I want to write and direct movies. Acting is fun and I may explore that also, but writing and directing is where it really is happening.According to Uni-B, his appetite is monster right now, the bite that he is going to take in hip-hop will leave others, scrambling for crumbs! There is a lot of talent out there now and hip-hop is recycling itself again to a certain extent. There are some good artists out there, but I want to really make a difference and make that change. I feel that the next stage of this game, you are gonna have to have some real skills and I am ready for it. I can look back on my life and see that my dad was the biggest influence in what I did in general, but with music especially. He opened not only my eyes and ears, but my heart and my thoughts to the songs that meant so much to him. The songs that we listened to said a lot to us and we need to gain back that responsibility in what our music stands for. I want to be a great influence to the kids coming up after me.Uni-B is an artist who is seeing what the industry has to offer and actually has a hunger for more. His hunger is for a change and he feels he has the skills for it to come into effect. Change is a good thing and hip-hop is about ready for a for it and he will be blazing the path for the difference.
