About Me

duck if you're with the nra
desdemona finch is a brooklyn, ny-based singer-songwriter by way of london, washington, d.c. and nashville, tenn. with swooping vocals that turn from a weary growl to soaring falsetto in one bound and unorthodox guitar style, she weaves a musical tapestry that transcends the boundaries folk, country and rock.not until she landed in england in 1998 as a grad student at mick jagger's almost alma mater did she start to take her musings somewhat seriously. london's creative vibe prompted the release of ep 128 southgate road in 1999.
later that year, finch landed in nyc and has since graced the stages of some of the city's most interesting stages -- the living room, c-note, baby jupiter, cb's gallery and the sidewalk cafe, among others. in addition to showcasing at the philadelphia music conference in 2000, she has played london's famous 12-bar club and kashmir club as well as washington, d.c.'s metro cafe.
In 2005, finch received an honorable mention in Hankfest's Ghost Writers in the Sky international country songwriting contest for her song "tainted lies and wilted roses." Hankfest is a yearly all-weekend tribute to Hank Williams in Chicago. So, in other words, unlike some artists who consider it a major achievement to write a handful of "original" songs to play to death, finch is a prolific songwriter whose music spans a wide range of genres.
Her latest "songcycle" entitled discourses with the dead and distant feature several co-writes with W.H. Auden, Trailer Star and Dolly Parton.
one word of warning to fans of newt gingrich, pat buchanan (not the guitarist), marie antoinette, ralph reed, charlton heston, napoleon or mussolini: you might not like the lyrics.

The new songs I post aren't new. Some are as old as the hills. Funeral Blues is a co-writing session between me and W.H. Auden via a Ouija Board. I'd play a verse and consult the board. It would tell ...

Too Weird

Today would be the 100th birthday of poet W.H. Auden if he hadn't kicked off. It's so strange as I've been "co-writing" beyond the grave with Mr. Auden for the past few months and had no idea his...

Found -- one glockenspiel

Now, I have two. Six months after moving I'm still looking for stuff. Anyone need a glockenspiel? He's cute and very easy to play.
