Geoff (Dad)

Always remember, that "A day away from Hawick is a day wasted."

About Me

I was brought up in the greatest town in the world, Hawick. When in Hawick visit the magnificent gardens, take a walk in the green and open spaces that is the parks and enjoy the silence. There is Scottish Borders Art Glass who create quality art glass which you can watch whilst they create.
There is the Drumlanrig's Tower Visitor Centre that is well worth a visit on the South end of the High Street, same Side as the Magnificent Town Hall.
There's a lot more to do in Hawick than you would think!
I like to do my bit for the Borders, including righting the huge wrong when they took away our railway on January 5th 1969. This hopefully is to be completed as The Queen has given the Royal Assent to the Waverley Scotland bill
There is also the Campaign for Borders Rail, but actually building a line and putting down track alongside a heritage centre, is The Waverley Route Heritage Association situated some 12miles outside Hawick on the B6399 Newcastleton Road, not far from the famous
Hermitage Castle.

Other interests are Radio, Broadcast Radio in particular, (which I have dabbled in now and again), I am broadcasting on the community station for Midlothian called
Black Diamond FM107.8 Mondays through to Thursdays from 12 noon til 2pm, and on a Friday night 11pm through to the early hours of Saturday morning. You can listen in online... by clicking here.
I no longer broadcast on VRN as I am now far to busy with one thing or another to get over to Kikcaldy but VRN still is as far as I am concerned the BEST Hospital radio station this side of a clean bandage.
I am always on the look out for good original music, like Scocha, but have never got round to seeing them or buying one or more of their albums.
I am also interested in TV, ever since I saw my first TV Camera on TV I was hooked and it spread to "What do other countries watch on Telly".
I am very interested in Satellite TV and have a regular page on the Digital Spy Forums, The SKY Channels, etc; ..page gets around six thousand reads per week on average collated from around a dozen hardcore guys, including one from of all places Galashiels!! :)

In no particular order.

Movies:

Oh goody we get to call them films here,
Silents First
The First is "The Kid (1925)" Chaplin at his very best,
"The Wind, 1927" Lillian Gish & D.W. Griffiths at their Best.
Then "Ben Hur 1925" which beats the pants of the 1959 re-make with Woodentop Chucky Heston.
Sound Films include; The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie 1969.
Most Disney Cartoon Features up to The Aristocats. The rest are a bit, well, bland after that.

Legends of the Falls,
BiCentennial Man,
Forest Gump,
Pleasantville,
O' Brother where art thou?
are the most irritating films I've ever watched more than six times each, as it doesn't matter where in the film I come in at I always watch them to the end.

Television:

I like good Sci Fi stuff Star Trek TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise, tho' I was never really stuck on the Original 60's series.

I like Stargate, Cold Case, Most Good Crime stuff. I absolutely lurve Still Game/ Chewin' the Fat, Karen Dunbar etc;

Books:

My claim to fame is I've read Lord of the Rings twice and read the Exorcist in an hour and a half. It's was well better than the film.
I've also read Most of Alistair Maclean's stuff then got bored with it. Haven't read a book in ages except Waverley route ones (Psst don't tell the Gaffer)

Heroes:

My heroes are many;
My Wife (The Gaffer!) & my Kids are real heroes.

Along with Miss Hilda May O'Brien (Marmarjee),
Wayne Hoban,
Betty Trembarth,
Sylvia Massey,
Lewis & Sheila Currie
Boise Allan Snr

And those I've never met
Rohnan O'Rahilly,
