SUBLIME

S|U|B|L|I|M|E (engl.; dt. erlesen, erhaben) meint im alltäglichen Sprachgebrauch etwas, was nur mit Gespür für das Feine und Außergewöhnliche versteh- bzw. wahrnehmbar ist; in diesem Sinne zeugt das “Sublime” von großem Einfühlungsvermögen und Verständnis.
Verständnis für Musikströme abseits des Mainstreams und Gespür für das Außergewöhnliche haben einige Menschen zusammengebracht, die eine neue Indie-Veranstaltungsreihe in Regensburg etabliert haben: Ihr Name SUBLIME. Das Konzept des “Sublimen” zieht sich dabei auch durch die Grafiklinie von Flyern, Plakaten und Homepage, die durch den wechselnden Einsatz von Tieren und Puppen sowie einer kontrastreichen Grafik und Typografie bereits nach kurzer Zeit einen hohen Wiedererkennungswert geschaffen haben. Denn wie bereits Kleist sinngemäß sagte, sind lediglich Puppen und Tiere erhaben...
Die Grundidee von SUBLIME besteht darin, nicht nur momentan angesagte Indiemusik zu spielen, sondern auch die Wurzeln und Anfänge der heutigen Bands wieder hervorzuheben. So kommen verwandte Musikrichtungen mit auf den Plattenteller, wie Shoegaze, Dreampop, Noisepop und Subpop bis hin zu leichten elektronischen und wavigen Klängen. Das Herz der meisten Sublime-DJs schlägt allerdings für den Shoegaze. Aus diesem Grund wurde sogar der SUBLIME e.V. ins Leben gerufen, der deutschlandweit wohl der einzige Verein ist, der es sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat Shoegaze-Musik und -Musiker zu fördern. Bald können alle Kulturförderer dem Disco unabhängigen Verein beitreten...
Seit nun bereits zwei Jahren sorgen wechselnde DJ-Teams dafür, dass kein Abend musikalisch dem anderen gleicht. Und doch gibt es Gewohntes: die Gäste bekommen nicht nur musikalische Leckereien aufgetischt, sondern immer auch ausgefallenen Süßkram in Form von sauren Schlangen, Brause-Ufos und Lollies von den Sublimatoren kredenzt. Denn jeder Sublime-Gast soll sich wohl fühlen, sobald er den Raum betritt. Sei dies nun im altehrwürdigen Leeren Beutel, wo schon einige Sublime-Konzerte (Malory, A Hundred Times Beloved, Polarkreis 18 etc) stattgefunden haben, im kleinen, aber feinen Club Polar2 oder aber im ehemaligen alten Kino Gloria.
Jeder dieser Abende steht unter dem Motto LISTEN AND DANCE, angefangen vom gemütlichen Ankommen, Entdecken der Süßigkeiten, Anschauen der raren 60ies Filme an der Leinwand, Zuhören zu unbekannten und neuen Klängen, bis hin zum Stürmen auf die stets zugenebelte Tanzfläche...

S|U|B|L|I|M|E in an everyday context means something that can only be understood and felt by someone with a sense for the subtle and extraordinary; seen like this, the sublime shows a great deal of feeling and understanding.
Understanding musical developments outside the mainstream and interest in the unusual have brought together a group of people, who have established a new regular indie music event in Regensburg: Its name is SUBLIME. The concept of the “sublime” also shows itself throughout the graphic design of the flyers, posters and the homepage, which by using in turns animals and dolls in high-contrast graphics and typographics have achieved a high recognition value after a short period of time. After all it was Kleist who said that dolls and animals are the only superior beings.
The basic idea of SUBLIME is to not only play currently fashionable indie music, but to also point out the roots and beginnings of today’s bands. This leads to related musical directions ending up on the turntables, such as Shoegaze, Dreampop, Noisepop and Subpop, to the point of light electronic and wavey sounds. However, the hearts of most of the Sublime-DJs beat for Shoegaze. This has even lead to the foundation of the SUBLIME association – probably the only registered association in the country focusing on supporting shoegaze music and musicians. In the near future everyone with an interest in supporting culture will be able to join the association, which is not connected with the club …
For what has now been two years, various DJ teams have made sure that no two events are musically similar. However, there are traditions: the guests do not only receive musical delights, but are also always offered unusual sweets in the shape of jelly snakes, fizzy powder UFOs and lollies by the sublimators. After all, we want all guests to feel comfortable as soon as they enter the room, whether it’s the traditional Leerer Beutel, where a number of Sublime concerts (Malory, A Hundred Times Beloved, Polarkreis 18 etc.) have taken place, the small but beautiful club Polar2 or in the ancient cinema Gloria.
Each event has the motto LISTEN AND DANCE, which starts right with arriving comfortably, discovering the sweets, watching rare 60s movies on the screen, listening to unknown and new sounds and ends up with running to the dancefloor, which is always extremely foggy.
