Richard Grayson's story begins in the CC Haly & Norton Brother's Circus.
It was here that, along with his parents, he became the star attraction on
the flying trapeze. His distinguished accomplishments at a extremely young
age set him apart and above from other acrobats and established his future
career in the circus. However, this future was not to be. When he was nine
years old his parents fell to their deaths in the center ring, altering his life forever.Dick not only lost his family but he then lost his freedom, being placed in the Gotham
City youth Center. It was on his escape from this institute he entered into his first
contact with the Batman. The masked man convinced him things would be better if
he gave it a little more time, and Dick regretfully returned to his bed in the center.It was then that Bruce Wayne entered Dick Grayson's life a second time. The
multi-millionaire took him as his ward and bought him to his mansion on the edge
of Gotham City. The two connected on many levels and soon Bruce revealed his
incredible secret to Dick. He was the Batman.After several months of intense training, Dick took on his own secret identity, Robin.
Hanging on to the nick-name his mother had given him he began to fight crime along
side of the Dark Knight, eventually catching up with his parents murder and watching
his death in a lion cage on the grounds of the circus that began his new future.Over the years, Dick found his place in life. Continuing his crime fighting with the
Batman he also found a group of young super heroes whom which he connected with.
They formed the Teen Titans, a junior version of the Justice League of America, and
Dick divided his time between Batman and his friends.Conflict erupted between the dynamic duo later, when a confrontation with the Joker
ended with Robin being shot in the shoulder. During Dick's recovery Bruce informed
him he would no longer be fighting at his side. After a quick recovery, Dick left Gotham
taking his Robin identity with him. He attended college, but this did not work out for him
either and he soon dropped out. He returned to the Titans full time and became their
leader. His leadership skills were phenomenal and he proved himself more than once
as a the team's backbone in bad situations. It was during this time that he changed his
identity to Nightwing to become more independent and separate him from Batman, who
had already taken on a second junior partner, a second Robin named Jason Todd.
But Jason's future as Robin was also cut short when the Joker killed him. A third Robin,
Tim Drake was then brought into the picture by Dick himself to try and keep Batman
grounded. Dick then returned to his job with the Titans.But after a terrible battle that caused the deaths of several teammates, Dick blamed
himself. His life began to change dramatically at that point. He tried to gain control by
proposing to Koriand'r (Starfire) a fellow Titan. However, the wedding was disrupted by
Raven, who attacked Kory in the middle of the ceremony. This downward slop
continued as other team members pressured him to step down his role as Titan l
eader. Finally, he relinquished his role as leader and left the team, returning
to Gotham.It was at this time that Dick faced many old demons by stepping into Bruce's shoes
and becoming Batman. He once again proved himself worthy and cleared his mind
of many weighty and complex problems that he had been carrying around for a long
time. When Bruce returned to Gotham and again took over the mask. Nightwing then
took off overseas in search of Alfred, Bruce's butler and longtime friend. It did not take
Dick long to find Alfred and help him realize he belonged back in Gotham City.At this point, Dick begins to analyze his life and decides it is time to give up Nightwing
and exist only as Dick Grayson to find out what he has missed in his life. However, he
finds its not that easy to let go of something that has been such a big part of your life
and when papers turn up providing resurfacing leads about his parent's murder he must
go to a low rent foreign country to investigate. A new Nightwing surfaces complete with
a new costume. In the process of finding out Zucco was, as he thought, the killer of his
family, he also finds out that he is one of the luckiest men in the world. He has a good
family and a good life. He is able to move into his new future as Nightwing.On his return, he joined Batman and Robin on several adventures before his expertise
was again called on by Batman for a special case. Twenty-one dead bodies washed
