About Me
Wendy Wonder bio:
The half Kenyan / half Dansih reggae singstress Wendy Wonder became popular in Denmark on a serious level with her feature on the hit single "Lever for dig" (a duet with Danish R&B artist Alex), but she has been active on the Danish reggae scene long before that! In her teens she started out performing as a jazz singer with great inspiration from Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, but when asked to do a reggae song by Danish sound system Rootsman Hi-Fi “it just felt right†– most likely because of the great influence from her fathers huge reggae collection.
Beside writing and performing as a solo artist she has also collaborated with Danish sound systems and producers like Universal Sound, Unity Hi-Fi, Dj Hydepark, Simien Sound & DJ Pharfar, and German Upliftment International and High Noon Sound. Furthermore she's also part of Danish roots reggae band Kinga & The Reggealution as backing and lead vocalist.
Recently she released the EP "Not touching The Ground" (Mureno Records) with Danish producer team B&B International, with whom she previously released 2 tracks. The EP received very positive reviews both locally and in the US, and their Danish tour included among other venues infamous Danish SPOT Festival. Apart from that she has also opened for big international reggae stars such as: Queen Ifrica, Turbulence, Lutan Fyah, and Chezidec.
In spring 2007 Wendy Wonder made a trip to New York where she hooked up with legendary Bobby Kondors and Keeling which lead to her getting airplay on Keeling’s radio show. In summer 2007 she went to Jamaica to “catch the vibes†and expand her network. She made many important hook ups, among others with infamous Jamaican producer Bulby (Bulby & Fat Eyes), and she also recorded songs for the Jamaican labels Iceberg Records and Sound Bank Music. Furthermore she also did a live performance at great success at Kingston’s 1 Night Club Asylum for an all Jamaican crowd.
If you're just a little updated on the Danish reggae scene, you'll know for sure that Wendy Wonder and her characteristic voice and charisma are up-and-coming, and that there probably won't be no stopping till she's reached the top of the fast growing reggae/dancehall scene.
This summer she performed at big Danish festivals such as Roskilde Festival, Nibe Festival, Langelands Festival, Skanderborg Festival, and German Splash Festival. This fall she will be touring in Denmark with Showstoppers Reggae Bash Tour 07 featuring fellow Danish artists Chin, and Mystic MC, Universal Sound System, and well known Danish riddim band The Raqga Pack.
