Incredibly Strange Music Deejay

About Me

‘Dontcha wish your deejay was wrong like me?, dontcha wish your deejay was a freak like me? dontcha?’Alright? You’ve just landed on my patch…I don’t know who you are but anyway...WELCOME TO MY WORLD! Im here to trade under the name of Carlos Slazenger- Dee Jay of radical, neglected & incredibly strange recorded sound, past present & future. I am a collector who has found that some of the most interesting things that exist are not those that are pushed into your face by the ACME multi-national entertainment corp. I create radio programmes & party nights that are intended to confound & surprise, something that mainstream music seems to have lost its talent for. It aint easy to answer what music I play when im asked, as I genuinely have no axe to grind regarding any one particular genre, and I am not in the least concerned with clutching at the coat tails of ‘cool’ .Though I am a lifelong fan of Captain Beefheart & The Fall, I suffer no pangs of wounded credibility by following them with Sabrina or Jethro Tull, im happy to play artrock, krautrock, early rockabilly, 50’s & 60’s novelty records, way out exotica, outsider music, regretable obsolete pop trash or W.H.Y alongside the collected works of The Chic Organisation plc. My dj life proper began at the turn of the last century with my mates from Kosmische with whom I started to broadcast on www.resonancefm.com. It was around this time while suffering from ‘The Strokes’ (though everyone else thought they were the future…some form of collective madness?) that I was diagnosed as having a terminal case of cynicism, for some people this might have proved debilitating, perhaps it would mean they could only manage to struggle as far as their local supermarket to buy their daily music, but I found it gave me a new lease of life! I would rise early to attend all car boot sales within range of my ridiculous fibre glass car from the 70’s (a Bond Bug if you must know ), the only drawback being my inability to walk past a charity shop without entering. Things went a bit wobbly in 2002 when I met my main squeeze em kei & emigrated to Greece (by mistake). So now im in a flat in Athens surrounded by broken robots & music on obsolete formats, ive taken my concept to the clubs & bars with my friends as ‘Non Stop Hits’ & im currently starting a new night called ‘pub jukebox’ with mates from www.black-athena.com which is a homesick ex pats attempt to recreate an English pub experience ( the underlying threat of physical violence wont be easy to fake but we'll give it a go).I also will be milking my schtick on www.artwaveradio.net soon & I have every intention of continuing to search for overlooked oddities to charm you with for as long as I have left to inhabit this planet. Incidentally, I have the technology to produce mp3 programmes for interweb pod dissemination, so if you wish to commission me for online projects as well as terrestrial broadcasts get in touch…lets do lunch! Just let me consult my Rasberry (?!) You may think I am foolish to think the idea that a show playing underground & obsolete overground records could have an audience, but now in my deluded mind i feel a public CRAVING for novelty & newness & for the overlooked also ran recordings of the past. This makes this project not only desirable but even, dare i say it comercial, im convinced that something has to change, colour supplement friendly cute punk & weedy RnB does not a satisfying record collection make, this tiresome capitalist world with its media sponsored rejection of difference,& its creeping corporate mediocrity of art made by commitee threatens to destroy everything that makes ANY kind of art interesting .This is seriously interfering with peoples overall sense of well being! I say : CRUNCH THE GENRES! SHOOT THE TARGET AUDIENCE!…& I want you to think that too…why?...because you’re worth it. P.S if any of you lot out there have got a copy of ‘Band on the Trot’ by Hylda Baker & Arthur Mullard im willing to do anything to get my hands on it…anything. You can listen to carlos slazengers audio obstacle course anytime you like as all my past programmes are available to download or listen to at www.artwaveradio.net ....& If you havent had your fill after that lot then heaven help you! If you have any recommendations or want to send me any bizzare or tasteless tunes you think i will want to play get in touch...
