u-prag::: alternative breakbeat

About Me

U-Prag was crowned in autumn 2002 in Prague (Czech Rep.), when two percussion players joined the already existing group of musicians experimenting on samples and electronic beats combined with guitar element ( el. guitar, el. bass ). This was the motion to enter upon intensive creative work. At this time, the name U-Prag originated. At the beginning of 2006 the guitarist has been replaced and MC Skiver J has joined the band.

Although U-Prag is a relatively young project, it has already managed to settle well on Prague´s club scene. The band plays regular gigs at its resident club 007 Strahov, further e.g. CrossClub, Abaton etc. At the beginning of 2005, U-Prag came out on the stage of Roxy Prague for the first time. German Dresden, music festival Rock for People, Tocnik and Svihov castle festivals are other interesting places among out-of-Prague destinations.
Full sound of guitar and bass blends together with samples and pads creating an impressive atmosphere. The accuracy of electronic beats is further multiplied by live percussions which have a significant role during the performance. Characteristic expression of the band is pointed up by the vocals floating from sharp rythmic to melodic tirades with cooperation with MC - pumping the live feeling up. Considering the specific instrument combination and the absence of live drumkit, U-Prag could be simply classified as alternative breakbeat, live jungle or crossover percussion jungle. However, none of these definitions can embrace all the music levels.

U-Prag also cooperates and performs with numerous sound systems, djs and labels (dnb, breakbeat, jungle, psytrance, etc.): Bassbeast, Shamanic, Tribalvision, and others. The visual projection is provided often by OKO3.

"U-Prag play that upright jungle with the essence of breakbeat. They don´t take one d'n'b loop and let it roar eight minutes without any change they smoothly break it, cut it and twist it. Live instruments and electronics side-by-side as it should be. Especially Czech scene lacks this category permanently." Tadeas Haager, Rock&Pop 3/2005, D.I.Y., p. 3
