BANNER BY ALEX CASTEL. THANKS CAPTAIN!This is a page for my musical stuff. I made the mistake of not setting up my original profile in the MySpace Music section. "Aliendogbrain" is just the original internet username of one Randy Simmons, your average garden variety weirdo growing up (and old) in the most boring place on Earth, and cultural armpit of the United States, Arkansas. I'm over 40, but I've been playing bass guitar since about age 12, playing other people's stuff. Between attitude problems (both natural and chemically enhanced), personality/ego clashes, my tendency to become easily bored with some types of music, and my generally "picky" taste in what types of "covers" I would and wouldn't play, I've ended up spending more time playing with albums and cd's than I have with the precious and few bands I have been a part of, even though I much, much, MUCH prefer the latter. After a couple of decades of trying to copy the licks of icons like Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Tony Levin, John Wetton, Greg Lake, Chris Squire, Flea, Les Claypool, Fieldy; the loss of my left ringfinger in 1990, two surgical procedures to (1) reattach it and (2) to make it move again, a few painful years of retraining, drug abuse, poverty, including seven months in lockdown, rehab, twelvestep, and probation; then six years without a bass to play; I decided in 2004 that if I could ever afford to buy another bass, that I would try to create something of my own. It's about time! But after close to 20 years of trying to copy other people's licks, and relative success in nothing but ruining my life, what exactly IS "something of my own?" That's what I'm trying to find out. So now I have a bass, a wonderful wife, and a new baby daughter... God has a strange sense of humor.
This is the beginning: one 4-string bass, one Pentium 3 computer loaded with AcidPro and all the VST's it will handle, no amp, no pedals, no band. Keep coming back and we'll see what happens. Thanks for stopping by.
