Lynne Jordan and The Shivers

About Me

This lady can sing it all and she does so with such power and ability that she captures every soul in the house. Combining a warm, witty sense of humor with a commanding stage presence, Lynne Jordan is a skilled songstress and riveting performer who knows how to communicate with each individual in the audience. Feet simply cannot sit still; bodies sway to the music as people are transported into Ms. Jordan's world. With every show this powerhouse singer does, she wins a roomful of new fans and warms the hearts of those that have traveled far and wide to be a part of the Lynne Jordan experience.
She has been called a cross between Etta James and Broadway with touches of Aretha Franklin, Bette Midler, Janis Joplin and Dinah Washington, blended together and then belted out to showcase her own unique style. Just ask Eric Clapton, who caught Lynne at Buddy Guy's and declared her "great"! Or Roger Ebert, who gave the "enchanting diva's" performance "Two Thumbs Up"! The songbird's admirers include Bill Kurtis, Senators Barack Obama & Jan Schakowsky, Michael Jordan, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Hilary Rodham Clinton, Roger Ebert, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Gary Sinise
Over the past decade this versatile, vivacious vocalist has sung everything from Bach to rock -- from big band and blues to gospel. Jordan's work as a backup singer with alternative rockers Urge Overkill put her in the national spotlight, as did her harmonizing with singer/songwriter and actor Tom Waits. House of Blues Records tapped Lynne's talent for its all-star tribute CD, "Songs of Janis Joplin: Blues Down Deep", which includes Etta James, Taj Mahal, Koko Taylor, Syl Johnson, Lonnie Brooks, Otis Clay, Tracey Nelson and Lou Ann Barton. Delmark Records' hit CD, "Women of Blue Chicago," features Jordan belting two blues classics. Blue Chicago Records' blues women CD, "Red Hot Mamas", showcases Lynne covering Janis Joplin and Ruth Brown
Combining a warm, witty sense of humor with a commanding stage presence, Lynne Jordan is a skilled songstress and riveting performer who knows how to communicate with each individual in the audience. Whether singing silly, serious or sexy numbers, the engaging entertainer enhances her tunes with theatrical flair and soulful intensity. Her campy head dresses and stage props would look right at home on a Mardi Gras float. No one who has ever seen this dynamic diva perform has ever gone home feeling anything less than thoroughly entertained.

Influences: "I grew up in the church and from a very musical family. One of my earliest memories are watching my grandfather, (the preacher and founder of our Baptist church) singing from the pulpit. Our church was full of great singers, including my mother and brother." Lynne recalls. The always-jovial Jordan says she grew up listening to 60's and 70's R & B, with a strong dose of rock, thanks to her older brothers. "I grew up listening to Pigmeat Markham one minute, and Led Zeppelin the next, followed by my mother's finish with Dinah Washington!" These days her tastes run from Hip Hop & Rap, ,Jazz, Pop and Rock, World music Im Obsessed with Indian music! And of course, the Blues!
Sounds Like: Etta James, Broadway, Aretha Franklin, Bette Midler, and Dinah Washington
