About Me
The Child (formerly known as Espinas) is Nick Schinder’s project that has involved many different musicians since its birth, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1999.
That same year, That same year, The Child achieved first place of the 2nd Rock Festival of the Lanus National University.
Since 2000 they have frequently performed in well reputed venues: The Cavern Club, Hard Rock Café, Hooters, Premier Theatre and many others, even in the rest of the country. By the end of the year, they got to be one of the 20 finalists of the 1st Ibero-American Contest of Internet Music, organized by La Resistencia, from the site El Foco, Universal. Altogether 2700 musicians participated, from all over Latin America, Spain and even the U.S.A..
By March, 2001, the group released its first LP: Espinas de Este Tamaño (Thorns of This Size), featuring covers and originals. They also shared the stage with some of the greatest Argentinean musicians such as Charly Garcia, Pedro Aznar and Fabiana Cantilo. In September, 2001, they got to the semi-finals of the Aguante Buenos Aires, a mega-contest that gathered more than 500 bands from the city and suburbs! Unfortunately the jury argued that they did not win because they sang in English, with only a few songs in Spanish. They also reached the semifinals of the First Latin-American Beatle Week, by playing their own special versions of some of the Beatles songs.
In 2002, The Child lived in Barcelona, Spain, where they usually played at many historical music places in the city, such as Kennedy, London Pub, La Ruta dels Elefants and Maremagnum..
In 2003 they reached the semifinals of the Demo Project organized by the International Festival of Benicassim, 2003, one of the greatest festivals in pop, electro and the indie scene in continental Europe!. In that same year, The Child produced its second album, Home, which begins to define the sound of the band: an unclassifiable pop, post rock, electro and world music blend, heterodox material and exquisite vocals.
In January 2005 The Child launched its third LP, Format Soul. This became a year of international projection, playing numerous gigs in London (Filthy Mc Nasty’s, Kennedy, Sound, Leonards, Dublin Castle, Hope & Anchor, Bull and Gate) or Munich (Crazy Diskothek, etc).
Since march 2007, The Child live in London and have released their fourth studio album, "Think Loudâ€, which represents a complete twist in the sound of the band: a return to their rock roots, but also, a record that finally registers the energy of their breathtaking live performances. They are currently touring the UK extensively (The Marquee Club, Bull & Gate, Hope & Anchor, The Water Rats, Storm, Sound, The Dublin Castle, The Long Acre, The Bullet Bar, Birmingham Crowne Plaza Hotel, The Matara Centre Gloucestershire, Dunchurch Park Hotel, Haslingfield Village Hall, Normandy Village Hall, Cadbury House Hotel, Chantmarle Manor, Hartsfield Manor, Petersham Scouts, Royal Bath Hotel, The Warf Restaurant, The Mill House Hotel, etc).. Be ready to surprise. This is not a genre band: independence means artistic freedom.
And enjoy the moment while it’s gone...
