About Me

A freelance writer, broadcaster and music columnist based in Torbay, England, I've been making radio programmes for the B.B.C. since 1981. I currently produce and present two weekly regional programmes for BBC West and South West (streamed 'live' every Saturday & Sunday evening from 20.03 hours UK time via the BBC's /devon website. Just follow the "Listen Now" hyperlinks). My LoweDown entertainments column in South Devon's Herald Express newspaper celebrates its 21st anniversary this year and, over that same 21 year period, I've had numerous articles and short stories (on a wide variety of subjects) published in Britain and overseas. In addition to the above, I am a long-time member of the actors union Equity. My stage name is Lewis Adler and, under that name, I have made numerous supporting cast appearances in British TV and film productions.

My Interests

Music, history, travel and matters mystical and spiritual

I'd like to meet:

Fellow writers and other media professionals, plus those with a genuine interest in matters spiritual and mystical ... a subject which, on the strength of some very personal and precious experiences, I have written about on numerous occasions, as you will see from my blogs

Music:

Everything from classical to big bands, to mid-20th Century balladeers and songbirds, Sixties pop and even some carefully selected rock. Particular latter day favourites include Steely Dan; Gordon Lightfoot; Joni Mitchell; Genesis; Supertramp; Yes and Chicago.

Movies:

On Golden Pond; Cold Mountain; The English Patient

Television:

Anything informative, educational and free of tokenism, propaganda and political correctness. Which doesn't leave a great deal more from which to choose, does it? Maybe that's why I watch very little TV.

Books:

Cold Mountain; Pompeii; Imperium

Heroes:

Sir Winston Churchill; JFK; Edmund Burke; Max Ehrmann
