About Me

First half of Phoning it In: -Lemon-Scented Sheets, -My March to Death, -City of God, City of Man
Second half of the set. It gets cut out on the last song, and you can't really hear the guitar (it was out of tune anyways)

Brother Bird (with Cody Coffey) at Mixtapes in Moline, Illinois playing "Everything is Beautiful". [August 2007] Enjoy!

Hi. My name's JB. There's a lot of things I have strong convictions about, such as equality, the end of discrimination and class, the possibility of a sustainable planet, and the necessity of thinking rationally about solutions for that. I am against racism, misogyny, homophobia or speiciesm.
That said, there are many things I can call myself, but that would just be confusing and silly. I like to call myself an Anarchist, or a Libertarian Socialist. It's not too important. It's just a way to use semantics to help me organize my thoughts under a political/social theory, but it's just a label. I'd rather just have labels for my music, a nice stage name. Something fancy. Like Brother Bird.
I'd rather be known for my actions, and not my ideology. I want to love on people, always. I love my girlfriend, by brothers and sisters, certain parts of my biological family, and you. I love making music and I hope you like my music.
In honesty, I'd prefer if you called me JB.
This brings me to the point of this Bio-Shiznat. This is my music project, Brother Bird. It's from my motha fucking heart, and I hope you can take something from it, whether it's some entertainment, or a strong conviction to love your fellow human (and other fellow creatures). No matter what we believe, music's a middle ground for compromise.
I have a band now, and it's called Their Family. Basically, it's a band in and of itself, made up of KC musicians and solo artists, coming together to back each others music up, and make original music as Their Family. It consists of my friends Adam Brumback, Justin Rennel, Ian Leftwich, Andrew Fry and Abby Clemons . I have a few releases coming out soon. I just released a split ("F" is for Friends) with Cody that's been in the works since forever, just recently released under Red Chair Records (my pseudo-label). I also just released a split 8" with my friend Manipulator Alligator on PIAPTK Records. I have a split with Tinyfolk which I hope to have released sometime before my tour(s) in August 2008, probably on Red Chair as well. Also, for my tour I should have a small EP which will consist of songs I couldn't find a place for in any of my other releases (but still good, nontheless. I'm just partial to songs fitting the release they're for). I'm also finishing a split cassingle with Regal Standard, all about isolation, desolation, distrust and subtle hope, to be released on Sanitary Records.
2008 will also see my first full-length in the fall/winter. "The Death and Rebirth of a Winter Moon" will be a eclectic mixture of noise, noize, 30's gospel and dirrrty folk, slave spirituals and modern DIY ingenuity. It's all about redemption in your own eyes, and also personal responsibility to the fragile synthesis of shared concious existence. Keep an eye out for all this, and please help me out if you can (DIY is expensive, and I am poor) love love love,
JB
