Natives of Dallas,Texas, Common Folk signature sound comes from a rich history of influences mixed with soul, hip-hop and pop music including Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Billy Joel, Earth Wind and Fire, Run DMC, Tribe Called Quest, and Lauryn Hill. Producer influences include Dr. Dre, the Neptunes, Quincy Jones, and Maurice White. Common Folk has worked with Slumpmasters, Ordained in Lyrics, Grammy Award winning Madukwu Chinwah, and Rock Baby who was featured on HBO's Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam .
The signature sound of Common Folk can be distinctly heard on their forthcoming project Souled Out, which contains hit tracks such as Consumed, Inseperable, One of a Kind, Thats Alright With Me, Common Folk, Butterfly and the ever popular growing hit Set it Off.
