About Me
Who wouldve thought that an expulsion from ones High School for gun possession, would be the destined measure to catapult that person into their purpose? I'm the effect of such cause. At the rocky age of sixteen, I was expelled from high school for gun possession. Luckily, it was taken to be sold and not shot. I enrolled in an alternative school for expelled youth to finish my sophomore year. I was first introduced to professional theatre there. I was one of seven selected students chosen to take part in the student written and performed play entitled, "Real Life." Moreover, this awarded me recognition as a published playwright. The acclaim I received after that project, led me to realize my gift of writing.Local theater companies in Dallas, Texas have produced some of my works. Showing my diversity I penned such plays as: unseen teens (teen drama), Who Drank the Kool-Aid? (comedy/mystery), and Lunch Line Blues (kids comedy/drama), to name a few. In 2003, I won TeCo Theatrical Productions' One Act Play Competition with a two-man play entitled, House Nigga/Feeld Nigga (purposely misspelled), and received a $1,000 cash award and two round trip American Airlines tickets.I've built a reputation as the "controversial" playwright. I just believe in saying and writing what's on my heart. I've had shows touring across the nation since 2002. "What Men Dont Tell" (starring Kenny Lattimore, Chante Moore, Dottie Peoples, Lenny Williams, Tichina Arnold) was my first national production, toured for two and half years, and was viewed by nearly 300,000 patrons. In the fall of 2003, God blessed me to be the writer and director of "Tell It to the Judge" (starring Judge Greg Mathis), allowing me to have two shows on national tour simultaneously. I'm currently on tour with my latest production, "Issues: We All Got 'em" (starring Angie Stone, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Mel Jackson, Kim Fields. Latoya London, Dave Hollister, Vanessa Williams, & Christopher Williams.) Check it out when it comes your way.My mission is to bring quality, innovative, Christian plays to a hurting nation; using a confrontational style that is refreshing to the gospel play market. My prayer is that through viewing my plays, men will assume their roles as leaders in their society, relationships, and marriages.I recently got married, January 14, 2006 to my lovely wife, Lisa.CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE AT www.LaterrasRWhitfield.com
