I suppose it all started years ago, when I was just 10.
I remember an Uncle (forget which one, but likely called Roy), at a Party saying he wanted to hear "Blue Suede Shoes" on the the old record player.
Someone, (me) put on the Original by Carl Perkins. I then spent ages arguing with him about Elvis and the fact that I just did not like his version. Anyway, that memory stuck. Party after Party throughout my childhood, I remember hearing the whole family sing along to "Blanket on the Ground" by Billie Jo Spears and "Cry, Cry, Cry" by Johnny Cash to name just a few of my influences.
Little did I know, that years later. In fact, 8 years after leaving school and spending hours upon hours drinking in a City Pub (Oops, I mean broking to Underwriters in Lloyds of London). I decided to give it all up and join "The Music Industry"
Well that worked out ok, because within a few years I was Tour Managing for Billie Jo Spears, then came Johnny Cash, who then recommended me to Carl Perkins.
I ended up managing Carl for the last 8 years of his life and to be perfectly honest, I cried like a baby, when he died. I had become close to him and treated him as he did me, as a friend.
Loads of stuff in between, before and after etc. but that is the sum of it.
However, I still take it all back to when I was 10 and Uncle Roy.
I am now semi-retired, living in Scotland, enjoying the gigs I want to do and doing more as a Monitor Engineer than anything else, which is relatively new to me
