The Henrys

About Me

Since 1990 (or so). 6 CDs. Tours in Canada, US, Holland, New Zealand, Italy etc. Main instruments are kona or weissenborn (acoustic lap style slide guitars), lap steel, pump organ, voice, trumpet, bass, chordette (by Excelsior), skins and a bunch of other junk. Often heard vocalizing in our company: Mary Margaret O'Hara, Becca Stevens. Mojo gave our CD ****. Even funnier was a magazine in NYC: "A band whose name does not give us the highest of hopes."

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: thehenrys.ca/
Band Members: Members revolve, repair, dissolve, resolve, absolve. The gigs come and (mostly) go. Commonly heard - if not seen - are Don Rooke, Michael White, Hugh Marsh, Paul Pasmore, Becca Stevens, Maury Lafoy, John Sheard, Mark Mariash, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Jeremy Bellaviti, Jorn Andersen, et Al (Penner).
Influences: Robert Frank, Larry Towell, Tom Baril. Tronzo. The guys who make cappuccino in that coffee bar in the big piazza in Milano - when you're facing the Duomo, fake right and go left. You'll be drawn there as if to a human-attracting magnet. We roast green beans, pull espresso, steam microbubbles, striving for that level of (effective) perfection every day.Cooder, Lindley, Kottke. The guy who invented the zone plate system. Polaroid - till they discontinued 665. Piltch - both of them. Lefty Frizzell and Roger Miller. Aretha, standing out on the street singing Respect in that video when she was so young. Dr. John throwing candy bars into the audience at Cobo Hall in the 70s while singing Walk on Gilded Splinters. Sneaky Pete tossing his steel bar in the air after a solo. Ray Liotta in Smith, till they cancelled it. Dwight, in The Office. Lucky Oceans dancing all over the stage like a dervish at Ontario Place. Rabbit ears for the TV. Dan Hicks. And 10,000 more.
Sounds Like: Modern roots. Old sounds/new settings. Hawaii noir. Check it out, but don't forget to PAUSE THE MUSIC ON THE PLAYER ABOVE, or polyrhythmic, stacked chord insanity will ensue:.. width="425" height="350" ..
Record Label: Ha!
