Below:
A list of some my favourite bands in order of how often their CD’s or tapes get to spin inside my CD/tape player.
Black metal:
(I mostly listen to unholy music...,
so try not to be offended by cute animation above because it should not be taken very seriously.
Gorgoroth (Pentagram, Antichrist, Under the sign of hell), Impaled Nazarene (Mikka is the greatest vocalist ever in my opinion because he actually sings but in a very throaty voice), Dissection, early Emperor (Wrath of the tyrant, In The Nightside Eclipse), Mayhem (De Misteriis dom Satanas, Deathcrash and Chimera), Anaal Nathrakh (their demo and Codex Necro), Ijdjarn (my personal favourites are Strength and anger and Forest poetry), Tsjuder, Dark Funeral, Bethzaida (a Norwegian band that combined traditional folk music with brutality of raw black metal), Beherit (Electric doom synthesis, Messe De Morte and Drowning Down The Moon), Setherial (their style is similar to Emperor), Enslaved (Frost and Eld),Trolldom, Burzum (Filosofem, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Hildskjalf), Kataksu, Absurd (Totenleider, Totenborg and Death from the forest), Ancient, Windir, Vreid (they shared members with Windir), Eternal embrace, Immortal, Behemoth, Darkthrone, Thorns, Aborym (Atilla rules), Primitive graven image, Tormentor, Belial (with guitarist from Impaled Nazarene), Krieg (U.S.), Nachtmawr (Germany), Son of the Sleepless (Germany), Judas Iscariot, Zyklon B (featuring Ishahn on keybords), Possessed, Myrkskog (Death machine), Axis of Advance (Canada), early Zyklon (World On Worms), Enthroned (especially their early stuff), Blasphemy, Carpatian forest, Profanctica (a band from U.S. that released a demo called:- The Rape Of Virgin Mary), Necrodeath, Necromantia (Greece, very technical, probably only band were bassist used eight string base with various messed up tunings for recording of one of their albums, apparently. In other words each one of their efforts is overproduced. This represents a bit of a problem to me because I prefer raw black metal, as opposite to overproduced stuff.), Bathory (Blood , Fire, Death), Damnation (a band featuring members of Merciless and Entombed), Craft, Nifelheim. Morrigon, The Abyss (a band from Göteborg, featuring members of Hypocrisy), Satanic war master,
Drudkh, Grotesque (that is pre- At the gates, they changed their name with their music direction),early Satyricon, Hate forest, early Crystal Abyss (Russia), Ashen light (Russia), Blood, Black goat, Funeral procession (Germany), Mortiis, Celtic frost (actually I call them black pre death metal, cause they sound a bit like Slayer), Alas, Impaler, Deinonichus, Meads of Asphodel, Havonhej (U.S.), Ulver, Khold, Morbid (Sweden), early Rotting Christ, Septic flesh, Vomit (Rot In Hell), early Cradle of Filth, Hellhammer (pre-Celtic Frost), early Usurper and lots of other black metal bands…
These are just some of my favourite videos I found on my space. There will be more.
A video for "Were Dead Angels Lieâ€. Jon Nödtveidt. A true master of darkness.
As rumours have started to spread I feel obliged to confirm Jon Nödtveidt's death.
Jon Nödtveidt was a man who lived his life according to his convictions and True Will. A couple of days ago he chose to end his life by his own hands. As a true Satanist he led his life in the way he wanted and ended it when he felt that he had fulfilled his self-created destiny. Not everyone will have understanding or acceptance for his personal path in this life and beyond, but all must respect his choice. Those of us who have met him in his last days can assure that he was more focussed, happier and stronger than ever. It is our full conviction that he left this world of lies with a scornful laughter, knowing that he had fulfilled everything that he had set up for himself to accomplish. The empty space that he leaves behind will be filled with the dark essence that he manifested through his life and black-magical work. His legacy and Luciferian Fire will live on through those few who truly knew him and appreciated his work for what it really was and still is. As our brother's goal in life and death never was to "Rest in Peace", we will instead wish him victories in all battles to come, until the Acosmic Destiny has been fulfilled.
Impaled Nazarene video for Karmakeddo Warriors (1999). Warriors die, then they come back to life as livig dead. Cool.
Same band, live in Tuska (2006) perforning Zero Tolerance.
Diabolos Rising - Satanic Propaganda. An industrial/black metal project featuring members of Imp Naz, Venom and Necromantia. Do not watch unless you really want to see it. For those, who choose do so, listen in fear and remember:- "You been warned".
Ragnarok playing Back Door Miracle This is black metal the way it is suppose to be. That style of early Emperor and Gorgoroth, that became a trade mark for this form of music.
I am a fanatical very early Emperor fan. This is the outtake from their recent live DVD, which features some of their old tunes, like “Night Of The Grave less Soulsâ€, from “Wrath of the Tyrants†and, hmmm…, everyone knows what this is.
Dark Funeral video for Secrets Of The Black Arts, from their album, that has the same name (originally released in 1996). This was their second studio album, I think. All of their releases, even early ones were very intense and technical.
First Varg Vikerines’s video for “Dunkelheitâ€(German version),Dunkelheit is Burzum in German, taken from album “Filosofem†and...
his (Varg Vikernes') dramatic escape attempt, October 2003.
Interview with "Mayhem's" drummer Hellhammer.
"Mayhem's" rehearsal with Euronimus and Dead, in 1988.
Same rehearsal continues. This time they play Freezing Moon.
And finally "Mayhem's" live performance of Freesing Moon , in 2004. I know that adding more then one version of the same song is a bit sad, but I love this tune. I could not find a version of this song with Atilla on vocals, so enjoy Maniac's screechy voice.
A video created by a very interesting black metal band from United States:- Averse Sefira, which is very good but has very small budget. This band was always original from corpse paint to their music, which is not as technical, as that of more recent bands; I guess it is what they play that counts, not quality of production of their albums. Before watching this video you most take into account that their studio recordings sound much better then this sound of battered and overloaded PA system.
Ancient (Swedish black metal) video for "God loves the dead".
A recent Behemoth live video, very technical but does not grip me like their older songs.
Death Metal:
Asphyx (Most evil band in Holland since 1987. The original European death metal band is the best.), Death, Deicide, Vital remains, Unleashed, Dismember, Immolation, Morbid Angel, Desecration (Wales, not to be confused with Dissection (one of Sweden’s original satanic bands), Deceased, Amputated, Grave, Derketa, Mythic,Infinited hate, Sinister (Diabolic summoning),early Pestilence (their later albums, like “Testimony Of Ancients†and “Spheres†are also good and frequently spin inside my CD player but fall into experimental music/death metal fusion category, rather then pure death metal), Slaughter, Sadistic torment, Abomination, Exhumed, Bolt thrower, Torturer (Chile, one f…n vicious band), Monstrosity, Cannibal Corpse, Bloodbath, Carcass, Obituary, Suffocation, Entombed, Deteriorot (another European death metal band, which sounds a bit like mid-90s Sinister), Angel corpse, Corpse Vomit, Morgoth, Deranged, Ancient Ascendants, Skinned, Origin, Diabolic Possession, Occult, Diabolic, Gutted (US), Cryptopsy, Napalm death, Nihilist (pre-Entombed), Unanimated, Brutal Truth (Extreme Conditions demand and Sounds Of Animal Kingdom), Anata, Pig Destroyer, Sadistic intent, Uphill Battle, Unholy ghost, Demolition hammer, Axis Of Discordance, Terrorizer, Autrocity, Naera, Repulsion, Pentagram (Chile), Hellwitch (a band from Florida, I think, which satisfies my craving for lot’s of difficult screamish lead guitar solos), Plungent stench, Nunslaughter (U.S.), Gadget, Sacrifice (Canadian band sounds a bit like Slayer), Incantation, Total F***n Destruction, Dominus XUL, Skinless, pre- Chaos A.D. Sepultura, Baphomet and many more...
This is just a tea spoon of my favourite videos:
A glimpse into Deicide’s past, when they were still called Amon, feasting the beast. The year was 1988 and Glen was wining up the press.
Ten possibly twelve years later. Deicide
playing “Deicideâ€, a song from their debut album, in 1991. Judging from Glen’s age, observation, that Brian Hoffmann still had long hair, sound quality and equipment they were using, this video was made after the release of their live album in 1998 (“When Satan Lives†has sound very similar to “Serpents of the Lightâ€, which is very similar to sound of this video). I guess, between 1998 and 2000.
A glimpse into Deicide’s present and their new album, which is different from their previous releases, but still cool, because they got Jack Owen, one of coolest guitarists ever, and, ex Death and Vital Remains, Ralf Santola working on their new release “Stench Of Redemptionâ€, and no, I disagree with what Glen says, it is nothing like “Legionâ€.
Death, live video for Denial Of Life, from their tour, in 1986, I think. This video also features Rick Rozz (this is not his real name), their guitarist, who left the band in early 90’s to join Massacre, another good band, not as good as Death. What I find amusing about this is that early Massacre had almost exactly the same line up, as Death, without Chuck. My point is that Chuck was the most important ingredient in music they were creating. I do not know if Massacre is still in music business. This much I know:- “Do not buy their most recent release “Promise†because it is their worst album up to dateâ€.
Morgoth, they used to be a great German band, before the released “Feel Sorry For The Fanaticâ€, live, in early 90’s playing a song from album “Cursed†(1991).
Old Monstrosity video, for a song called Final Cremation, from their brutal debut, featuring very young grunter man, who is now in Cannibal Corpse.
Same band, after lots of line up changes, touring in South America, in 2002.
Unleashed, another great band from Sweden (riktig Svensk death metal), video for "Victims of War",recorded in 2005 at the "Up From The Ground Festival" in Germany.
Dismember, I sow them live, with Dissection, a very long time ago. This is a classic from mid 90's album "Massive Killing Capacity". A song called Casket Garden.
Something that is not very easy to find. Cannibal Corpse video, with Russian Mtv subtitles, from 2001, originally from 1993 (later that year they recoded first half of …he… he… “Bleedingâ€, which they finished in 1994, great album) featuring Chris Barns covering or vandalising, depending on how you look at it, Black Sabbath hit, which was originally recorded by Sabs with Ian Gillian (ex Deep Purple) on vocals.
Early Sinister. Anyone who heard “Diabolical Summoning†loves this tune, fourth, third and first songs, on that tape. The only disadvantage of this album is that, the way some songs are arranged, is a bit cheesy. I want to thank them for putting up one of my favourite songs, as a song the represents what this album sounds like, on their my space account.
Sinister video with Rachael on vocals, from Mystic festival Poland (2001).
Morbid Angel's live video for Immortal Rites, 1989. Eveil live sound, which makes me wish to be old enough to see them back then.
Suffocation video, from 2005, I think, for a title track from one of their most underrated albums "Pierced From Wihin"(1995).
Of coarse this place would not be complete without Obituary videos. I am proud to present a video for "Turned Inside Out".
Finally, a metal relic, which features Possessed playing Exorcist, live, in mid 80’s.
Antisocial death/thrash:
Malevolent Creation, Merciless, Carnage (Sweden, featuring Mike Amott), Venom, Master, Tankard, Holy Moses, Arch enemy, early Kreator, Krabathor, Slaghter ,Sodom, Rigor Mortiis, Hate sphere, Violence and many more…
Malevolent Creation (live). This is one of their recent videos, which features Rebirth Of Terror, a song from “The Will To Kill†(2002). I don’t usually say this about new albums, because I normally hate all new albums, even by older bands, but that was a killer release. I even went trough a lot of trouble to get “The Will To Kill†T-shirt.
This is Holy Moses video for “Panicâ€, from The New Machene
Of Liechtenstain (1989). I have not seen this one for ages. I really like it and cartoon vision of the apocalypse. Enjoy.
This is another Holy Moses video for “Darker then hateâ€.
I was trying to put something more original then just another video, so I added an interview, with Arch Enemy members: Mike (ex Carnage, Carcass) and Angela (ex Mistress).
Sodom (As you all know, they combined elements of grindcore and black metal. Unlike “their neighbours Mayhem†or Profanctica, from the other side of hell, they chose to write songs, that were less related to occult and more about rotten society, politics and police brutality, which is why lots of people understand their songs and why they sound so angry. Obviously they appeal to larger audience then lots of other similar sounding bands. To experience any of their songs is sort of like watching Michael Mores documentary and Jerry Springer at the same time. A name of biblical city of sin is a perfect name for a band that proves many times over, that that modern society is very dysfunctional.), playing Nuclear Winter, from Prosecution Mania (1987) with 1987-1988 line up. Guitarist and drummer left the band for various reasons and replaced by people that appear on Ausgebombt video.
Ausgebombt video for a song, which is featured on their EP, from 1989, which has the same name. Another version of this song, with crispy production, exists on full length Agent Orange released at the end of the same year.
Finally I present their cover of a rather famous song Fâ€â€k The Police, which was made relatively recently. This is one of those most see videos.
Thrash:
Corrosion Of Conformity, Whiplash (U.S.),Hirax and Power Mad...
A few sample videos:
Corrosion Of Conformity video for a song from album Blind (1991):- "Clean my wounds".
...and their video for "Vote With a Bullet". It explains why you should vote, when you can, a right lots of us take for granted, because they view politics as boring subject and chose not to vote allowing maroons like George W. Bush, or Putin to force their way into higher levels of their governments.
Power Mad video for a song called “Nice dreamsâ€, from late 80’s, they do not make those any more.
Experimental:
All Shell Parish, Converge (Jane Doe), My Cross To Bare (progressive hardcore), Red Harvest (some sort of industrial/thrash), Prong, Tyrant Of Manchester and Apex Twin.
Punk:
Exploited, Discharge, Stiff Little Fingers, Anti Nowhere League and Dead Kennedy’s.
A few videos:
Exploited live with their late 80’s – early 90’s line up playing a title track from Troops of tomorrow.
Discharge’s live video for State violence State Control (1983). Enjoy.
Heavy metal:
Black Sabbath (Sabotage (1975), Born Again (1985), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1974), Mob Rules (1981) and Eternal Idle (1987). Last two albums have cheesiness of Dissection’s “ReinkÃ¥osâ€, however less extreme then productions of gods of black metal.), Black Widow (III and Sacrifice), Pentagram (original doom/heavy metal from U.S.) (Sub Basement and Relentless), Jimmy Hendrix, Hellstar and Saint Vitus.
