About Me

Wotan’s Vrede is a pagan black metal project, originally called Sjalet's Mörkret, formed in 2001, originally featuring Soulreaper, vocals, A.J. (session), bass and alex Roderick (session), drums. In 2001 band recorded it’s 1 demo and quit. The band was reformed in 2004 featuring unlikely line up and recorded “Wotan’s Warewolves”, which consisted of 4 very simple songs, recorded on very low budget. In 2007 the band recorded material for split with Mountains (U.S.) Think “Na Rasput’ye” or “Forest” (Soulreaper), jamming with Nocturno Culto, friendly black metal / thrash metal person who prefers stuff like "Isengard", and "Windir" (Alex). Two members with different political views, decided to continue to create a unique pagan revivalist project based on the ideas from Norse mythology. The themes for the songs are more to do with paganism, antichristianity, respect for mother nature, honour fantasies, survivalism and self efficiency, then politics. Think of travelling through a dark forest haunted with ancestral spirits hunting for food and relying only on yourself. You are the maker of your own destiny and no one else. It is hard to exist like this but you are free from society’s chains. Later, in 2007, F.J.Y took control of the Mountains and both bands are, currently, recording new material.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Present.

Soulreaper (A. L. Popov, aka Leon, also in another four bands:- Exalted (U.K.), Sturm (U.K.), Antichristian Inquisition, Vacant Grave (U.K.), ex - Spastic Christ.) vox/rhythm guitar/bass/drums

Alex Sproule (Session member, who played additional guitar on "My Wrath Is Your Sorrow" and "Cracks In The Temple Of Christian Lies"). Alex normally plays honest antisocial black/death metal, so it took me a while to convince him to play for a pagan metal project.

Past. Andy Cooper (Session member, who played synthesizers on Emperor cover).

A.J. (His real name is kept secret) session member, who played bass during 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2007 rehersals but did not contribute to demo recordings due to the lack of interest.

Thomas (Hard working session member, who played bass during 2006 rehearsal, however he did only contribute to alternative version of "Night of the Graveless Souls", unreleased version, due to problems with recording equipment.)

Alex Roderick played drums for 2001 rehersals.
Influences:
Firstly and most importantly Mika Luttinen (Impaled Nazarene), Kanwolf (Nargoroth, Totenburg), Unhold (Luror, Wolfsmond, Absurd), Wolf (Absurd, Heldentum, especially their early songs from split with Absurd), Meyhna'ch (Mutiilation, Hell Militia, Malicious Secrets, Satanicum Tenebrae, Belathuzur and other LLN bands I have not mentioned), Mark Adams (Deceased), Regnare (Totenburg, live vocalist for Absurd), Glen Benton (Deicide, Vital Remains), Eric Daniels (Best guitarist in the world, in my opinion, from Asphyx, the name comes from asphyxiating vocals, which sound a bit like progressive hardcore. This was one of the first proper death metal bands that emerged from Holland, formed in 1987, the original is the best.), Diabolic Possession (specifically their early recordings), Cult Of Azazel, Bill Steer (Carcass), Jeff Becerra (Possessed), Malefic (Xasthur), Leviathan, Vilwolfheim (Sombre Chemin, Widomar, Blutschrei, ex-Heidenwelt ), Vidar Vaaer (a tortured spirit, that is the essence of a band called Ildjarn (Most similar musician to me in his way of thinking and what he tries to achieve with his music, not musical influences), people who’s views you may not quite agree with, like Branislav Kaldrad (Rundagor, Forest, Branikald, Vargleide and Nitberg), Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection), Strolstrager (Veil and Xenophobia), Ulf Gerner (Raven Dark and Velimor), Sebastian (Wolfsmond very heavily ,Absurd, to lesser extent Helgadom), Hendrick Moebus (Absurd) and Piotr Piatek (aka Piaty most famous for his work with bands like Kataxu and Darkstorm), Varg (I like both Burzum and Mayhem), Necrobutcher, Chuck Schroeder (Death), Imperial (Krieg (U.S.)), Doug Cerrito (he is a good guitarist but his style is more experimental, which makes him very original guitarist and which I almost religiously admire, however because his style is quite different from what black metal bands play I find it hard sometimes to absorb his riffs) and last, but not least, young Isahn.

I support:

Sounds Like: Odd and politically incorrect USBM/BM influenced burzumic black metal, stripped to it’s bare hateful essence, that deals with concepts of mysticism, paganism, honor fantasies and pre-Christianity.
