The Washington Projects are - Jekob Washington (25), and Rachael Washington (22).They are 2 of the 3 original members of The Souljahz, who recorded and released their first major label debut entitled The Fault is History in May of 2002 released on Word/Warner bros. Records, immediately garnering worldwide press coverage that continually singled them out as "a smash act in the making". The years that would follow are best described as the lost years. They were virtually operating without label support for a little over 2 years.
Fans awaited their much anticipated sophmore release not knowing that the all the while most of the artist, A&Rs, and basically the whole record labels staff from the president to the mail clerk, was in the process of being flipped upside down. Needless to say The group turned in a full 11 track record during these years, that was self produced, with co production by Chris Rodriguez, and Kiko Cibrian, with features from Robert Randolph. The new regime shelved the record and made no attempt to establish a date or time to record a new record for over a year and a half.
Time & hardships affect every group in a different way, and in July 2006 the group known as Souljahz among their fans for over 8 years disbanded due to irreconcilable differences with their record label. Rather than go to court over the use of the name to finally be able to release a new record after a 4 year absence, they decided to use the name given to them by birth which no one can ever take from them. Jekob & Rachael Washington have performed alongside some of the very best in the music industry, as they have patiently awaited their turn to lead the pack. The Washington Projects is a no brainer. This incredibly gifted group has returned to the studio for the fourth time in their 10 year run, and what they have been working on will change the way you feel about Hip-hop. If you are already a fan you will truly appreciate the breath of fresh air that they bring to this industry, and if you have a history of hateration you wont anymore.
The Washington Projects have an uncanny ability to paint incredibly visual pictures of hard won hope and high ideals thru the raw voice of Hip-Hop music. Their live set is one to be reckoned with.
