Hello Friends, let's make it a friendly day!

About Me

I like to listen to scratchy LP records in my basement. Black Oak Arkansas, The Stooges, George Harrison, KISS Alive!, Hank Williams, Slim Whitman. Cramps....icky old man music. I also dig Hank 3. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ...................................... I teach guitar Mondays through Saturdays, play in several bands and operate a really good 24 track recording studio. Always searching for a cool new gig to play, new people to collaborate with, bands and solo artists to record plus I am open to adding new students to my teaching roster. Teaching consumes my energy which keeps me out of trouble most of the time. I have been teaching since I began playing guitar in the 70's and to me it's just a real relaxing way to connect with people and spread the happy feelings music brings. Send me an email if you wanna try a lesson. [email protected]. I will email you info on rates, schedule and teaching philosophy.................................................. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ........................... I have appeared on a few cds in my day. Recently I have completed a cd with my band The Surf Zombies. Doug Roberson is on guitar, Jim Viner on drums and Joel McDowell on bass. We play a few gigs here and there. It's surf instrumentals and we collaborated on most of the songs. We are very happy with the way the record turned out. We gig a few times here and there. Our first gig was opening for Dick dale...that was decent to say the least....................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .......................................My other band Meerkats has a new cd in the can to be released when some of this stuff blows over or blows up. Meerkats is made up of me on guitar and vocals, Joel on bass and vocals and our dear buddy Mr. Erik Marshall on drums. We’ve been gigging steady since 1992. We do some fun rockin' covers and have a lot of great originals too. I really like the covers we do. They are a lot of 60's hits that were just plain hip plus osme punk classics and some party anthems. Covers get pretty old sometimes, but I like the ones we play. We rotate through the tunes and often try out new ideas live onstage with no rehearsal. Joel is very powerful on bass. He plays a simple style like Dee Dee Ramone with great intensity and he really pulls it off. Erik is a straight up drummer who doesn't waste any hits. He gets a great sound out of his kit and does the essential cool snare lead ins. Keeps it simple and powerful.................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .........................I did a solo album called "Don't Touch the Monsters" with Bill Neff on drums. I was going for a power pop vibe on that one. The funny thing about my solo album is that I forgot to play a lot of solos on it. We are investigating the possibilities of re-building that band for a few gigs here and there. We were called Brook Hoover's Circle of Fiends with the wonderful Kyle Oyloe on bass. That was great working with Bill because my buddies and I always thought he was outstanding on drums I really am lucky to get to play with all these cool musicians!.................................................. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ......................................................... Before that I appeared on Dick Prall's famous cd "Somewhere about Here". I came up with a lot of fine guitar hooks that dressed up Dick's chords and melodies nicely and we had a great time gigging behind that record. It was nice to get some recognition for my guitar work back then. We played in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri and Kansas and Illiniois. Around that time Meerkats had released "Enemy Planet" which was a sprawling masterpiece of weirdo rock. Before that we did "Curse of the Hearse" which is a cool indie rock record. Preceding that record we did a cassette only release of "Magical Misery Tour". There have been a few other releases, compilations, aborted records along the way. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ........................................................I also play in a band with Sarah Cram. She is amazing and fun to work with. Sings great and writes great songs. Kyle Oyloe is on guitar and Charlie Hasson is on drums. I love these guys. This band is on hold for a while....................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ....................................................Yet another band is IMPACT and we play at St Mark's Lutheran Church. I have been rockin' these Sunday mornings for about five years..We have a new leader named Jessey Vera and he gets us to play what's in his head and that's a good thing. I think leadership is such a big deal. A band has to have a vision and someone who can lead you there. He's only been with us a short time but it's been great....................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .........................I am really into my recording studio. It is set up to record bands and solo artists efficiently. I have some killer old Ampeg, Marshall and Fender amps ready to go plus a superb Gretsch Broadkaster kit. I started recording on cassettes as a child. Soon I was recording my guitar work. Later I moved up to studio work in Fort Dodge and Minneapolis and eventually learned the art of recording. I greatly enjoy every aspect of it. Need to make a demo or full length or ep? Look me up. I often cannot get to my phone in time...too busy, but leave a message or myspace me.......................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .....Yet another band is IMPACT and we play at St Mark's Lutheran Church. Playing in bars, ya get that once in a while. It's extremely difficult for me to respect people who can't hold their booze. On the other hand I have tremendous respect for those who have overcome addiction and have a new outlook on life. I also cannot stand to be around people who lecture and never listen. Over-bearing people think they are powerful, but really they just suck the life out of a room. I am much more into an organic, flowing conversation where people listen and show common sense....................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................My big project this summer has been working on my '67 mustang. The mustang has 50 oz 302. It has aluminum heads, MSD ignition, headers, and a new Ford automatic overdrive transmission. Hoping to make about 375 hp and go faster than a stock GT. W are at the point where we are ready to install the exhaust and fine tune the transmission, then fire it up and rock. So close!...................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ........................... I also am always reading a large stack of new non-fiction books from the library. I am smarter than I look! I promise..................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................................................ .............................................I have a phobia about speaking on the phone and also one about filling out forms. Hopefully will go on another vacation again some day! Thanks for looking at my page! Please leave a comment
