About Me

Asia Underground Ltd was set up a few years ago when I was teaching Chinese-English translation at Bath University. My intention was to help bring quality dance music to quality promoters around Asia. Back in 2001 I organized "Tokyo Underground Explosion" - a UK tour, of some underground Japanese bands I had met at Spring Scream Music Festival in Taiwan, and the tour documentary was shown throughout Asia. The last year I've been in Korea recuperating from a year or so in Japan. From 1973-1983 I grew up in Hong Kong. My first vinyl was "Play that funky music white boy" by Wild Cherry which my brother bought for me after I scratched his first copy on my Fisher-Price Record Player. 1992-1993 I lived in Fuzhou, China. Back then the dance halls of China were filled with ball room dancing to the beats of Taiwanese ballads and Canto-pop. Armed with mix-tapes from the UK, I organized the first all night house parties in Fuzhou and Yangshuo. Since then House music happily replaced ballroom dancing in clubs throughout China.Fondest memories are of Brighton 1990-1992 when I studied music at Brighton & Hove Sixth Form College in Brighton, UK and started going out clubbing.
