Band Website: This is it.
Influences: Some press stuff.

Some are articles are old, some are really old and some are newer. I go through spurts where I collect everything and then others when I collect nothing. Half the stuff I have gets erased when I have to wipe my computer and I don't have back-ups. Plus there's more stuff in boxes back home I don't have access to. So I am missing lots. Sigh....anyway, at least here's something.

I think I'm entering a 'collecting/promote myself' phase again with the new cd, so hopefully, I'll have more things to add to this soon!'

'For the past 5 years, DJ Rob Solo's Subsonic Thursdays at the Well have been a haven for house hungry party seekers. The longest running club night in the city has supported many a local DJ, weathered the transition from ravers to clubbers, and functioned as a major social node in the city's electronic music network...'
-Melissa Wheeler, Beats'N'Pieces - Ottawa Express (Canada)

'Squeeze into your tight-ass pants and get down to Babylon for the DJ Assault show this Friday....This rump-tastic evernt is being put on by our very own comedian/musicain, Rob Solo. A scoundrel and a hero, Solo is the ultimate entertainer and the coolest guy in the galaxy. Widely appreciated in Ottawa for being a smuggler of the phattest tracks in the known universe, Rob aims to please everyone, yes, even those with small bums....'
-Sarah Albrecht, Underground - Ottawa Express (Canada)

'Rob's fluid mix of booty house takes in tracks from the Beastie Boys, DJ Assault and Britney Spears/ Rob's career is on the rise and should be fully errect - watch your backs!'
-review for Strictly Booty III - Muzik Magazine (UK)

'Solo is best known for his Subsonic residency at the Well - after the Monkey/Dome/Mars closures he became the saviour of Ottawa's Thursday nights...'
Faria Khokhar, A Closer Look at the Forces of Unity - Ottawa Xpress (Canada)

'Where is your favourite place to play?' '...Ottawa comes a close second, because it's the best place to party with the promoters. I don't think I have ever played Ottawa sober thanks to everyone at Empathy (Solo's production company.)'
-Interview with Big League Chu - Modern Drunk Magazine (Canada)

'Tape of the Month, first runner-up'
-For Strictly Booty I - Muzik Magazine (UK)

'This tape smacks down what the Ottawa scene loves, or loves to hate, the in-your-face bass of booty house. It's nasty audio porn, recorded live at the Well (home of Rob Solo's residency.) There are 29 tracks here, each dirtier than the one before and the mixing demonstrates why Rob Solo steals the show at every party. If you are a member of the 613 Booty Cru, this is 60 minutes of pure education with the booty masters. Strictly Booty will definitely elicit a blush from the most jaded a listeners'
-Fariah Khokhar, Strictly Booty I review - Ottawa Express (Canada)

'Mr. Solo is the founder and resident of Ottawa's longest-running club night, "Subsonic Thursdays". This tape is a live recording from that night and is perfect reflection of his signature style: 'Strictly Booty' is just that - hard, fast and pounding music for the naughty boys and sassy girls who like it pumpin' and relentless. Quick mixes, clever samples and Rob's well known (twisted) sense of humour make this one top-notch booty tape. This is the kind of music that your mother would scream at you to turn down (and your response - to increase the volume of course!)'
Deko-Ze, Strictly Booty I review - Subsonic Magazine (Canada)

'Rob Solo has been extremely busy, Up To Speed Volume I is making people groove here in Ottawa. His new tape, Strictly Booty, is released on July 10th, but I got a sneak peak and was shaking my ass for days!' La - Tribe Magazine (Canada)

'If booty house is your thing, then here's a good mix from Rob Solo you should pick up. Recorded live at Ottawa's The Well, this min is fast, hard and utterly offensive. Just the way booty should be. 60 minutes and 29 tracks make it an assault on the senses. All mixed and programmed well. Another enjoyable tape from what sounds to be a great night in the capital' Bass Queen - Strcitly Booty review - Tribe Magazine

'Taipei clubs like Ministry of Sound and Luxy have been tremendously successful, and it's only a matter of time before South Taiwan catches up. And leading the charge are the five DJs profiled here:

DJ ROB SOLO
A decade or so ago, Rob Solo stepped onto the DJ scene in Ottawa, and proceeded to make a name for himself. He paid his deck-dues hosting the popular Subsonic nights and playing alongside some internationally renowned DJs at the World Electronic Music Festival (www.wemf.com). Come 2003, Kaohsiung's nightlife scene was fortunate enough to gain his experience, talent, and enthusiasm, and soon the popular Frisky Parties were born. In collaboration with DJs Chris and Mythic, Rob has livened things up at venues like Bobos, the Roof Lounge, Viva, and Overtime. As a DJ, he plays Disco House with some funky breaks thrown in--mostly upfront, happy party tracks that just make you want to jump up and dance around. In testament to his sets, one can expect fun as a fact on the given night--and a few stiff muscles the morning after.'
- Peter Vorster, UP TO SCRATCH: LEADING DJs IN THE SOUTH - South Magazine (Taiwan)

'....headling the event will be Rob Solo - his underground style and passion for his dance floor has gained him legendary status amongst clubbers and djs. So catch Rob's set on the main stage or in the lounge (for breaks), because he has agreed to lay down his mixes in both rooms!'

URB Magazine - Reader Mix of the Month (for Strictly Booty IV)
'Can you actually buy your way into a Mix-It column? It's a question that's been asked for years and the current administration ain't afraid to say 'hellz yes.' The price? A bunch of Japanese candy sent from Thialand (-I think they mean Taiwan-) by Ottowa-born (-I think they mean Ottawa-) DJ Rob Solo. (-Even though I was born in Montreal....-) Not only does he have the good sense to mix Spank Rock, Snoop and DJ Assault. And is humble enough to admit that the 'overall crappy-ness of the sound quality' is because it was recorded live on two 1200's and a 1954 US military surplus mixer with rusty cables. OK we're exaggerating. Must be all the raw, rising-sun sugar. Western tounges are not ready for 'soda mint' flavor. If you're in that time zone, check for Solo live!'
- URB Magazine (United States)

'But realistically, all genres are outdated. Breaks, House, Trance, Techno, Hip-hop: Each and every one is bleeding into one another. Accordingly, DJs the world over are getting wise to the game and jamming as many loud, bombastic genre-jumping tunes together in order to create a non-stop party.
The trend has hit Taiwan's shores, too, as evidenced by Kaohsiung resident, Rob Solo's new mix, Strictly Booty vol.4: Music for French Kissing, Heavy Petting and Dry Humping. Starting out with some hip-hop mash ups, things progress into bhangra, funky show tunes (Shack Up (Wiseguys Edit)), nu school acid breaks, B-More, Baille Funk, and, finally, Ghetto-tech (DJ Godfather's Who Shake the Best).
A gaggle of genres with one thing in common: they are all upbeat, crassly party-oriented tunes. At times, Solo's mixing is awkward, but really, smooth mixing isn't the point here. The point is to create a debauched, raucous mix perfect for that early-AM house party. And Rob Solo has successfully achieved that with SB4. He'll officially release the CD on Nov. 11 in Kaohsiung, and then in Taipei the following week. Keep an eye on this space for details.'
