Born in the projects of Montgomery Alabama embraced by the street life witnessing before adulthood what the average American visualize on television and most artist characterize in their lyrics, lands chappy amongst the selected few pure at heart artist that has earned the right to endure the craft. Professing his talents at the early age of 12 landing his 1st development deal with a local singing group and independent label allowing recording and stage presence to become a normal every day task. At the age of 16 the young artist was already writing rap lyrics, R&B songs, poetry and playing a role in the highly respected choral ensemble of his high school which enabled the ability to read an write music, playing the piano and vocal training by a professional music director. Taking his passion for music to a higher level, chappy landed his 1st professional recording and release with a very credible indie label in Montgomery, Smallworld Entertainment in 2000. He became apart of a compilation venture with the group smalltyme ballaz which is not an unfamiliar name in the Alabama region. Upon the local success of the album and performing throughout the region the label helped create a dedicated fan base for chappy an developement of his own independent label transforming the artist to the C.E.O position releasing his 1st solo project in 2002 (the chosen one). Due to hard work and dedication it was a local success gaining radio airplay, sold out venues and top selling positions in local music retails along with gaining attention of the daily newspaper (Montgomery advertiser) which credited chappy’s success in a press release. Through the course of 5 years the label maintains its reputation with several solo releases, has posted billboards throughout the city, b.e.t commercials, appeared, performed and recorded with several platinum artist and producers, received major offers and participated in several of Alabama top award shows. Receiving best performer award for 2004 voted by the people for a successful D.V.D release of artists in Alabama and Georgia. Spitfire award for lyrics in 2004 by dead serious t.v/upn in auburn Alabama and best male artist in Alabama 2006 for dirty 30 in Birmingham Alabama. This is definitely an artist that plays a major role in introducing the world of hip hop to Alabama. What separates this artist from most artists isn’t the fact that he has several material accomplishments and choose not to brag about it on his albums, but he dedicates his lyrics to the less fortunate and the streets because that’s not only what he came from but what he overcame. He’s not seeking a major deal for success because changing someone’s life through his music has made him successful already and that is what makes a great artist determined and allows longevity. .
