All the good tricks hurt...

About Me

Occupations: I help women have their babies by default, but every now and then I emerge from a phone booth and wow crowds by lighting something neat on fire, or trying not to fall to my death.

Dreams: The Law of Attraction is bringing me my dreams on a silver platter, one by one...

Favorite things: Nectarines, lemurs, strawberries, being upside-down and napping. Oh, and my husband. He's up there on that list, too.

Location: I followed a cute boy to Reno. We'll end up back in Seattle eventually, but for now there are other towns to paint red!

Appearance: I have short hair out of a combination of laziness and too many close encounters with wayward fire tools. I try to take care of my body, as I didn't get the optional insurance policy when I signed the rental agreement. I have one tattoo and no odd piercings. Green eyes and freckles just about complete the picture.

A friend of mine who happens to be a spine surgeon once chided me for hanging upside down, 15 feet in the air from a somewhat unstable structure. He thought I ought to think more about my safety. I thought about that for a while, and then figured that this is my only chance to do this stuff. That it's important to do one thing every day that scares me. That that I could get killed any day now by a passing truck, drunk driver, crazed patient, or a random shooter... Or by tumbling gracefully to my death doing what I love. Chances are, I'm not going to live to see 80 and I really can't actually count on seeing my next birthday. I have contingency plans in case that does happen, but in the meantime, I operate on the idea that I don't want my last thought to be: "I wish I were doing something else..." My greatest fear isn't the end, it's wasting the time I have until then.I devote some of my waking hours to my duties as production manager and performer for Reno's hottest fire performance group: Controlled Burn. Our wicks are bigger than yours. My mom read a book on Burningman a couple years ago and called me up to say "I figured it out." "I knew there was something different about your life, and I couldn't ever put it into words, but now I can. You participate. You don't just sit back and wait to be entertained, you create your own entertainment." So that has become a motto, a battle cry, and a reminder of why I am working so hard to have so much fun. Sitting back and watching TV, drinking on Friday nights and sitting in a boat on the weekends is entertainment, I suppose...But me, I participate.

My Interests

Burningman, aerial silk, lyra, static trapeze, corde lisse, fire performance, fans, poi, fingers, staff, burlesque, belly dancing, childbirth & peripartum nursing, midwifery.

I'd like to meet:

Other aerialists (especially within 3 hours driving distance of Reno!) Fire performers (especially those who herd other fire performers.)

Music:

The Mutaytor, Thievery Corp., Tom Waits, Pink Martini, Ani DiFranco, Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, Snake River Conspiracy, and the Pussy Cat Dolls 'cause they're burlesque-tastic.

Movies:

Requiem for a Dream, American Beauty, The Five Senses, The Wizard of Oz.

Television:

I'm sure there are shows out there that are worth watching, but I can't stand the advertisements and the constant attack on my body image. So, the TV collects dust until the next netflix envelope comes in the mail.

Books:

I'm on a Chuck Palahniuk kick. Choke, Fight Club, Invisible Monsters, Stranger Than Fiction... When I have time. I liked the Four Agreements themselves, but not the story that presented them.

Heroes:

Mae West, Dirty Martini, Erong, my mom.

Aerials

Just uploaded a video of A and I practicing for our Very First Performance.  Watching it now, I kinda cringe a little.  It's cute - like a 4th grader's dance recital.  Lessons learned: ...
