About Me

Myspace LayoutsAt an early age, Sonya realized that music was in her soul. Influenced and encouraged by her parents and family members, it gave her the courage to realize her dream. She joined a R&B female group in 1998 called "Affinity" comprised of four members. They were together for four years and performed in the DC area at numerous venues. Affinity also released a house track called "I Can't Live Without You" which was distributed on a compilation CD in Europe. When with Affinity, Sonya opened up for local recording artist Sym for his CD release party, as well as sang backup for Sherelle Carey Smith who played the part of Anita Baker in an original play based on Anita Baker's life. After four years, Affinity disbanded but Sonya was not yet ready to give up on her dream as a vocalist.Sonya and her close friend and writing partner Cyndi teamed up with the talented producer "Jammin" who was developing a record label for African American women musicians and vocalists and started performing original gospel songs for numerous churches and was involved in a gospel play called "There's A War Going On".Sonya also sang at the African American Heritage Festival in Alexandria, VA and was invited to sing at Freedom Plaza for the annual Marvin Gaye Day in Washington, DCIn 2003, Sonya joined the very talented R&B band Dyversity as the lead singer. Dyversity has performed locally in the DC metropolitan area at numerous clubs and private affairs. Dyversity was also asked to be a part of Sherelle Cary Smith's CD release party in Hampton, Virginia. Dyversity has since been asked to record on Sherelle's new CD and will be recording this Spring.Sonya was also asked to sing background for Gary Wright, of "Dreamweaver" fame, along with her close friend Sherelle Cary Smith at XM Satellite Radio in DC.Sonya is now signed to the record label Mighty Two Diamond, headed by William DeVaughn, who recorded the hit Be Thankful in 1974. She is currently working with several talented producers and writers in the DC area on her first CD.Sonya loves to perform and still shares the stage with the Dyversity Band. Dyversity is currently a part of the Emergenza Music Festival in collaboration with Tanya Louise, another talented vocalist. The Dyversity Band impressed alot of people in the Baltimore Club world and now has a full calander of up and coming performances.
