Born in Melbourne in 1987 and raised in the southern suburbs of Sydney by his Egyptian parents, Coptic Soldier is not your typical hip hop artist. Growing up, he shunned the aggressive, violent and arrogant lyrics that spewed forth from the US. It was his coming across various tracks with deeper meanings and clever wordplay from the likes of Eminem and Tupac that first caught his attention. A few years later, Coptic stumbled upon Australian hip hop and had somewhat of an awakening--here were artists whose lyrics, views and upbringings he could relate to.
With the positive seed well and truly sown, Coptic felt a need to contribute more to the scene. He began writing rhymes throughout his last year of High School. A year on he hooked up with fellow rising Sydney emcee Phatchance (one third of the Natural Causes causes crew) and began to record his music. The name Coptic Soldier gives an indication he is not your typical emcee. The word "coptic" comes from the Christian Faith of Coptic Orthodoxy; "soldier" was added to create the ‘Soldier of Christ' concept, a true description of everything this up and coming emcee does musically.
Coptic Soldier has already begun to make a name for himself throughout Sydney under the guidance and drive of Nurcha Records' CEO Shrekk, performing as a solo artist and also with friends Drake MC and Blarse. Another impact Coptic Soldier has had continues through his growing site www.hiphopsphere.com . , which promotes the hip hop culture around the world. His brief career to date has seen him support names as large as Pegz, Def Wish Cast, De La Soul, Planet Asia, Hyjak & Torcha, as well as the cream of Sydney's up and coming talent: the entire Nurcha Records roster.
Coptic Soldier has just released his debut ‘False Start Mixtape', which features a number of artists and close friends who have influenced him and his music over the years. He is truly a unique artist in our burgeoning scene.
