As a kid that was always singing tunes, the Sydney based emcee Double first picked up a pen in 1999 and wrote his first 16bars and found a passion that would grow like the scene itself. At this time he knew no-one who did it.
He started recording verses on a dicta-phone, because that was the only available source at this point in time...
Having to put up with surrounding people telling him he was mimicking American artists and saying there was no scene for him here at all, double pushed on and knew that they weren’t hearing the words but were looking at him with a closed mind.
After branching out, the discovery of the Australian hiphop scene eliminated any form of doubt and generated a growing hunger that continues to flow.
Leaving doubters speechless at parties and introducing the scene to others that didn’t know, Double met Big Lu in early 2003 and started to put down the first Double & Big Lu tracks. Using a cassette tape to record for the first few months, they soon moved up to a laptop and used its external mic to pick up the lyrics.
With Double excelling as an emcee, the boys both started to enter battles and organised gigs at various places. As time went on they both started recording in a home studio up at St Leonards and with mates pumping their earlier bangers around Sydney, the boys discussed starting up a label.
Not long after that Double met Shrekk and some of the Nurcha boys at a pub freestyling. After a few cold ones and a few hot ones a date was set for a gig and they tore the house down at one of the Down for the causes.
The idea of starting a label disappeared, and with that Double became a Nurcha artist.
Since that day he has supported acts like N’fa, Savage(NZ), Mistro(UK), Bias B, Funkoars, Vents, Brad Strut, Def Wish Cast, Pegz, Masta ace, Planet Asia, Wordsworth and many local acts in places like Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Yala, and Katoomba.
Resently Double and Shrekk have put together the Nurcha Store up at Hornsby, 12A Coronation St.
Double is currently working on an album which will come out later this year. In this album you will find inspiring words, topics and the way in which he conveys his aspect of life.
