About Me

VOX BARBARA is so-named because it means 'savage voice', and we are savages. We also like to be reminded of VB and Barbara Streisand simultaneously. We're a creative writing collective/super power from the Queensland University of Technology (Brisbane, Australia), and our aim is to foster emerging writing in every single way possible. Imagine us as a kind of literary liberation front, giving talent opportunities to show itself and transforming the literary and related scenes around the country into one beautiful amphibious love God. What we find irresistible: innovative writer-performers, words that gut you, collaborative projects, visual arts, local bands, spoken word, writing camps, workshops, the interested and the interesting, and you.
In the past we've held events about quarterly, and they've involved people like John Birmingham, Alasdair Duncan, Leigh Redhead and Jaya Savige, and showcased some of the best writing coming out of this city and this country that you'd have never had the chance to hear/witness otherwise. This year, we're taking over the world one step at a time: we'll be holding our regular writing-performance/reading/music nights, we'll be running workshops and a writers' camp out of QUT, and we'll be making our presence known at arts and cultural festivals all over the place.
Because you want to be a part of us, we make membership easy. It costs $5 to join, and this small formality will be repaid many a time over, we promise. All QUT students can join, and people outside of QUT can become associate members. Any member is given access to our meetings, our resources, and our supreme adoration. For more of us, and for details about or events, meetings, and more, befriend us on this MySpace monster; contact us at [email protected]; join our discussion and announcement list by sending an email to [email protected] with 'subscribe’ in the subject line.
