About Me

Born and bred in the great modern music mecca of Detroit, Michigan, Kenny Flav was classically trained to play the trombone, piano and drums while taking part in the school orchestra. During his tenure at Redford High School, he participated in the marching and jazz bands while participating in the glee club. Ultimately, his natural talent for music composition would take over, and by the age 17, Kenny began producing for many neighborhood and local acts. These artists used his music to garner heavy radio play and local attention. It took little to no time before Flav's name and productions started a buzz around Detroit because of his local hits and remixes. After catching the attention of Quincy Jones and his record label Qwest Records, Kenny was offered a lucrative production deal. Flav opted out of that venture and instead honed his talents with the 2000 Watts Music production company. He was soon producing records for a variety of artists with acclaimed producer and CEO Darrell "Delite" Allamby. His co-production on R&B group Silk’s "If You (Lovin' Me)”, led to an ASCAP Rhythm and Soul award. The Busta Rhymes and Janet Jackson’s mega-hit “What's It Gonna Be?" landed Flav on Billboard’s Top 5 Pop Charts and led to a Grammy nomination. After spending three very successful years with the 2000 Watts Production Company Flav took the next logical step and ventured out on his own. He then founded the production imprint, Wayne Kounty Music (namesake of the county in which he was born and raised). During this time his solo production skills caught the attention of musical icons such as Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Gerald Levert and various record label executives, who soon sought him out for his signature work. Flav has been noted for launching several successful careers in the music industry. Among the many accolades that Flav has received, he counts the Grammy nomination for R&B Album of the Year for Mary J. Blige’s No More Drama, as his proudest moment. In 2005, he birthed a six-piece funk band called Wayne Kounty and went onto record their debut album titled "Fantasy World". This critically acclaimed album features guest appearances from George Clinton, Amp Fiddler and Queen Latifah, just to name a few. The Grammy-Nominated/ASCAP Award Winning Producer is currently working on new projects with Layzie Bone, Ashanti, Shyne, the Hi-Fi Boys, various movie soundtracks, television commercials and developing new artists and producers.
