Now...
The name is
CHARNISSA and I thank you for stoppin by.
So, what..s really goin on??? I'll be updating this page as I go along - if I keep waiting on time to do a complete update, my album would have been released!!! *LOL* Anyway, I..ll leave it up to you to ask whatever. I am workin closely with some good friends to get some music completed and place some of it here on my naked space.
For those who don't know, I am a songwriter, vocalist (background & lead) for studio/stage (on & off camera), arranger, entertainer, and lover of all things musical.
~Here's a little bio on me~
I started singing at the age of 12 even though I loved music as early as I can remember. My family isn't musical - my mother is the one who started that fire in me. She's an original "Sweetheart of Soul" who sang background for Aretha Franklin (I'll add more of her story later). That's where I get it from. I was serious about music by High school, where I was in a four-girl singing group. We performed at talent shows and events around Detroit. By the time of graduation, our group split up, went our separate ways to re-unite 3 years later... this time reduced to 3 members. We worked with local producers/studios and the stakes got greater with each opportunity until the big split that happened with people whose personal intentions cost us a major deal. I knew this would never bring us back together. A college dropout, I started working in Corporate America when a high school friend known to Detroit as DDT (from WJLB) helped me get up the nerve to get back at it. Along with my BFF, Venita, I started singing at local area karaoke spots and open mics. From there, I was invited to sing at events and shows (also doing studio work) as I did when I was in a group, but this time, it would be alone. I ended up a member of The 14th Floor, which started me on my way to becoming a better performer and gain the experience I needed with live bands. I was also introduced to performing in casinos, in this case, all three: MGM Grand Casino, Greektown Casino, and Motorcity Casino. Two years later, the band broke up to form Phase 5 and continue on. It had been three years when I and Midnight would start The Music Suite, newly formed in 2007.
I have worked with local & national artists/groups including: Simone Vitale, Renaissance Man, Neco Redd, Quentin Dennard, Bamm Davis, Tony Ozier, Back to Back, MonicaBlaire, Kenny Flav, M.A.T.I.X, King Gordy, Amp Fiddler, Mr. Porter, P.H.E.A.R, Bobby Creekwater, Se'Von, Courtney Williams, Jewelz...z, Prima Donna, Vitology (Canada/Detroit), SuLe (Canada), Veronique, and a host of musicians/writers/singers/producers/studios. I have also performed in 2 Musical Gospel Comedy Stageplays: "Papa Don't Take No Mess" by Carlton Hamilton and "Family Ties: A Van Randall Drama" by Bryan Van Randall.
I am dabbling in production, engineering and will be messing around with mixing soon. I am also a member of Live... The Music Group as a staff writer for the label's artists (CHARM, Vina Mills, Roc Stea'd, and JiG) as well as placement work for indie & major artist. I don't know what I would do if there were no music in the world. I feel that my life is dedicated to music. I can say this because I have tried different things and nothing else seems to fit!!! The world without music... scary thought!!!
...and speaking of friends - due to the increasing number of extraordinary people I know, I have to rotate them every now and again, so if you were in the top 8 and somehow disappeared, we're not beefed out. You'll be back there, STOP CRYIN!!!
So, I'll be around....
