When moving to Southampton, Chris met Joseph White in 2005 who introduced another guitar, the micro-korg and a glockenspiel, from this point Kumiss became a four piece instrumental band therefore veering away from vocals. The next year saw the addition of much acomplished Violinist and multi instrumentalist Benjamin Perry, who bought to the evolving band a new focal point. In 2008 a sixth member was asked to join, already a highly proficient pianist, Jem Wakeman bought studied tonal composition to old and new songs, such a progression meant the band were able to focus in more depth on their own unique sound.
The band have supported, since their instrumental transformation, the likes of Areogramme, Yndi Halda, the Silent League, the Strange Death of Liberal England, upcdowncleftcrightc ABC start, Yolk and Thomas Truax. Also having appeared on a recent slot in Rick Wakeman's Planet Rock show, kumiss have attracted a wider audience.
"Kumiss have been earning their stripes for the past few years, carving a name for themselves as one of the hottest upcoming talents in uk post-rock. Their mind blowing music and energetic stage show will surely push these individuals into stardom very soon!"
- Joiners promotions (2008)
"This band still just manages to get better and better. The Seasonal E.P. release has some awesome concise instrumental pop tracks, moving away from their period of “Post-rock†music."
