Darren Beachley was born in June 1967 in Frederick, Maryland. His mother and father were wonderful singers and Darren was soon to follow their example. Darren was influenced early in his life by the music of Jimmy Martin, Flatt and Scruggs, The Osborne Brothers and The Seldom Scene and like many young players Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Darren started playing Mandolin at age 4 and by age 9 was playing upright bass. He made his first stage appearance at age 11. At age 14 he was playing mandolin, resophonic guitar, Guitar and upright bass.Darren began his professional career with South Central Bluegrass in August of 1988. The band would record 2 projects for The Webco label and the song "I Pressed through the Crowd" would reach number 17 on the bluegrass charts.In the fall of 1991 Darren became one of Bill Harrell’s Virginians. Darren carries many of the lessons he learned from Bill to the stage today. Also in the fall of 1991 Darren began a working relationship with Norman Wright and Kevin Church. He had met Kevin when he was 12 years old, Kevin was working in Darren’s fathers band. He knew Norman from The Bluegrass Cardinals and The Country Gentleman. Norman had written songs for Doyle Lawson which Darren has always highly respected. In October 2003 Darren decided it was time to head out on his own and The Maryland Line was formed. The band released it’s first CD "Remembrances" which was nominated for 5 WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Awards). In late 2004 Darren would get to know Nashville great Tom T Hall and his wife Dixie they encourged Darren and helped with a new recording called " I Love You To The Moon And Back" which Tom T , Dixie and Larry Mcpeake wrote. Songwriters Paul Craft, Donna Hughes, Jimmy Moore Pete Goble and Chris Walls would also add originals for Darren to sing. "I Love You To The Moon and Back" was released on Tom T and Dixie Hall’s Blue Circle Records and it also was nominated for a WAMMIE for bluegrass recording. Darren has in the past performed with The Seldom Scene, US Navy Band Country Current, The Tony Rice Unit and in May of 2005 Darren was honored when asked to fill in for Jamie Dailey as a part of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Little did he realize he would return to work with DL&Q just a few months later. On January 7 2006 , Darren would play his first show as a member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver would capture it’s sixth consecutive IBMA vocal group in 2006. "He Lives In Me" would also capture gospel recorded event at the 2006 IBMA Awards. The song " He Lives in Me" climbed the bluegrass and southern gospel charts peaking at number 5 on both charts. 2006 Darren would also help produce "Bill Yates and Friends, A Tribute To The Country Gentlemen". It has recieved very high reviews. 2007 brought many changes to DL&Q Darren would move forward to play guitar and become the lead singer and road manger for Quicksilver.Darren proudly endorses Mike Long guitars.
