Matt George - drummer (among other things)

About Me

'One Love' - live with Francis Rodino @ Zulu's, Fulham, London, 30/03/2007
Matt George grew up on the beach very near to Land's End in Cornwall, the most southwesterly point of the mainland British Isles. He was introduced to the drums as soon as he joined secondary school aged 11, after it became clear that tapping saucepans with chopsticks was not the way forward.
At first his interests lay only with heavy metal music, basically the fastest, heaviest music that would cause my parents the most outrage! (isn't that how everyone gets into metal?!). After struggling to resist, but finally succumbing to the grunge era of the ealry 90s, aged 16, a friend gave him a casette that was to set him on the long and tortorous path trodden by few. The tape was 'Exit Stage Left' by Rush, the path was Progressive Rock!
During the ensuing years, he disappeared up his own backside seeking 'musical enlightenment'. To many, all he found was a load of self-indulgent widdle, but during this time he acquired skills not only as a drummer, but as a guitarist and all round musician, fluent in many styles of music from death metal, to jazz, and pretty much everything in between. During this time he also played and recorded often, and most prominently with Cornish 'agricultural metal' pioneers, Bogfiller.
Inevitably the time came when the arid musical environment of Cornwall prompted him to relocate to the capital in 2003. After playing with numerous metal outfits, some prog rock, some jazz etc. he is currently playing full time with well known London band Ted Maul. He is also a member to join up-and-coming London based prog/black metal outfit Concept. And since the latter part of 2006 Matt has been drumming for brilliant singer/songwriter Francis Rodino, and alternative prog pop outfit Sweetheart. Matt is also available for gigs and sessions and teaching.
