About Me

I am Jonah Rank: a.k.a. "Jonah Ranksta - Jewish Gangsta": a.k.a. "The Jewish Frank Zappa ": "The Observant-Jewish Randy Newman ": a.k.a. "The Conservative Matisyahu ": a.k.a. "The less-talented Ben Folds ": a.k.a. "The untalented Louis Lewanovsky": a.k.a. comedy, pop, rock, and/or Jewish-music singer-songwriter pianist/drummer/multi-instrumentalist Jonah Rank: part-time musician & full-time student at Columbia University and The Jewish Theological Seminary .
Above is my debut music video, for "Getting an F On a Breath Alcohol Test" from my 2nd album, the experinstrumental (because it is both experimental and instrumental) Your Favorite Album .
Upon viewing my Space for your first time, the first thing you might wonder is "Does it say "click to order" in front of a red background in order to make Loud and Dumb more appealing to communists?" If this actually is the first thing you wondered, first off, you're sick; secondly, the answer is yes. Anyway, as I've mentioned: I am Jonah Rank, a part-time solo artist. "Jonah Rank" is not just my awesome stage name, but it's also my REAL name and my blogger name!* I sing and play piano, guitar, drums, bass, and a bunch of other instruments. I make music to make people feel happier, inspired, artsy, or emo. And it works often! (Sometimes though I make music music that just makes people hold the palms of their hands tightly against their ears, but you can't please everybody... and on bad days, you just can't please anybody...) Above is a low-quality video of me performing "I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met)" by Bob Dylan , one of my favorite feel-good singers (because I feel good about my own singing voice after listening to Dylan). Oh yeah, and check out this track of "Climb Your Mountain" by Davey Rosen and Yoni Stadlin of the Stadlin twins on which I play piano (at http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6585132 ).
If you feel like buying my CDs (beware of poor recording quality!), check out my debut, Loud and Dumb from 2006 (also available on iTunes) , or look for the totality of releases at my artist page on CD Baby ! On Loud and Dumb , I play most of the instruments at the same time (studio magic!) and sing about worldly topics ranging from ethnocentric journalism to elephants who speak Spanish fluently! On Your Favorite Album , I play every instrument one-at-a-time and pretend that I am learning how to use my recording studio and show off my superb talents as a multi-instrumentalist (please note though that the track of me playing triangle was removed from the album - not because I am not good enough on triangle, but because I am too good). I hope my music makes you happy (and not have to hold your ears too tightly too often). And remember, if you live in a country without health care, my music is way cheaper than Prozac. Fun fact: at least 10% of all profits made from my music go to various charities! I write more info about this at my blog here... except it takes determination to navigate my blog, so good luck searching! Powered by iSOUND.COM
Above is Your Favorite Album, my latest release. You gotta love it... the title doesn't leave this type of thing open-ended! Furthermore, you can find my music for free at Amie Street .
