D.J. Jay One!

Dont Call It A Comeback! I Been Here For Years!

About Me

Ive been a D.J. since 1984, at a time where Hip Hop was not quite a teenager but it was around for awhile. Being from Mass, I wasnt exposed to the birth of Hip Hop, but I knew the moment I heard Rappers Delite in 1979 coming from my older brothers room, I knew from there on I was hooked. That was way before I ever heard scratching or mixing. The first time I heard scratching was a record called "Buffalo Gals" by Malcom McLaren feat the World Famous Supreme Team, but it wasnt till I heard "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel" soon after, is when I wanted to learn how to D.J. Then I began to practice on my pops stereo when he left for work ssshh dont say nuthin. I have to say that my pops was a heavy influence on me in my early years, he used to play records from the 50s & 60s every Saturday night, at the time I thought that was the music that was popular. I would just sit and watch the records spin and I would read the labels and be amazed at the sound those "things" made. As a 5 yr old that was a crazy thing. And I also credit my mom, becuase when I was a baby she would always have the radio on, she knew how to keep me in line. As time went on the D.J.s have gotten better and I worked at a ladies shoe store in high school to cop my first pair of Technics SLBD1 and a realistic mixer, later on I was able to get a pair of Technics 1200mk2s. By the time I heard Dj Jazzy Jeff "The Magnificent" and "Live At Union Square" from there I knew it was on! So I spent hours perfecting the art of mixing and scratching, being self taught is the best thing, but I also would be influenced by the older D.J.s from around the way and the D.J.s who were making records and mixing them as well. Today im still practicing and learning and teaching others to be a good D.J. These days I am out doing private gigs, clubs, bars, weddings, birthdays, "divorces", you name it.And during the day I am a Realtor but in my heart I will always have a place for pure Hip Hop.
