Saxophonist Jeremy Johnson, was born in Evanston, Illinois and began his musical journey via his grandfathers.. record collection which included the virtuoso piano sound of Art Tatum from the 1930's, the Bebop sound of the 1940's and the jazz and hard bop of the 1950's. Jeremy's fate as a musician was sealed at age 14 when he attended John Marshall High School and was introduced to the saxophone. By the end of his freshman year he was a member of the advanced jazz band.Throughout his junior and senior high school years he was a member of Gallery 37's Latin Jazz Band where he became lead alto saxophonist, In addition to this he joined the All City Concert and Jazz Band Merit Music Program and the Sherwood Music Academy in Chicago. During this time Jeremy also began to play professionally with local Salsa and Jazz bands.In 1995 he entered North Eastern Illinois University's Music Education program where he studied Music Education with Dr. Shane Cofer, Jazz Studies with Mayo Tiana and Private saxophone under renowned Saxophonist/Clarinetist Dr. Aaron Horne. While attending NEIU he familiarized himself with the playing styles of jazz masters like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Dexter Gordon.While in school Jeremy immersed himself in Chicago's rich music scene and collaborate with some of Chicago's most creative and versatile musicians. He has played on several recordings including WGN Studios and Westell Communications. His most recent project The Jeremy Johnson Experiment has been growing in popularity and playing for such companies as Tip Top Branding and Lucent Technologies.His musical influences include the aforementioned jazz masters, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Earth Wind and Fire.
