The Great Irish Hard Rock Revolution.OK, heres the deal! TGIHRR is basically a movement set up out of the anger and frustration caused by the shear lack of support for our home grown hard rock. We have some great original hard rock bands, yet, the media practically ignores them, they wont write about them,
Radio stations wont play them, bars and clubs dont really want them unless they are a covers band, the large promoters give them the hard shoulder and looking for an opening spot or support slot to an established international act here is next to impossible. Now, we know there are a few exceptions out there, DJs, journalists, small promoters, club owners fighting our corner for years and we really appreciate that, and we all know who they are and watch this Myspace more then likely they will show up in our friends section. But in a nutshell, it is almost a P*ss in the wind for Irish Hard Rock in Ireland.So how the Hell can an idea like TGIHRR change this? You might ask.
Well, we can try. First of all, we are not talking about Japanese Chamber music; we are talking about Hard Rock in the broad sense. Anything hard rock, classic rock, metal, hard blues rock, some decent hard core, modern, contemporary, retro but original material is required by the bands. We want to see shit hot guitarists, savage drummers, ballsy bass players and singers that will rock your world.The idea:We will start to organize the first TGIHRR Showcase gig soon featuring 10 bands and then expand from that and try build it up across the country. Everyone is welcome to join up on this myspace, fans and rock bands etc. Bands, we dont need you to send demos to any address just pop your noise up on your myspace and submit it to us and we have a select panel to review it and put your band in the running for a slot on a TGIHRR gig. If you are good you will get a gig.
It is not a competition or battle of the bands etc. we will send out someone to see you at one of your own gigs and even if we feel you are not ready you could be in six months. We hope to keep a fairly high standard of band on the gigs which is going to be good for everyone.Lets face it; we know there is a market for hard rock in Ireland. We know there is a shit load of young hard rock bands. We know there is a huge bunch of hard rock fans and they come in their droves from all over the country to the RDS and Point depot to watch the big International names.
We also know under eighteens cant get into clubs/bars to see local bands, young bands cant even get a gig there. Lets see much, much, more All Ages Gigs, Support your local hard rock band. Everyone get up off yer arses and go to these gigs, Lets start the Revolution Now!
Over the last few years in Ireland the alternative/indie/punk fans did this for alternative music, the singer songwriter fans did the same for singer songwriters BUT hard rock fans have done F*ck all for
home grown hard rock and we can change that. Its all about creating a buzz and awareness, spreading the word on the streets. We will keep entrance prices to a TGIHRR (10 band gig) down to a minimum i.e. 5 euro even less when we can.We need bands now. Join up its free.Bands like GLYDER, JADED SUN, and THE ANSWER are already re opening the doors for Irish Hard Rock at home and abroad. Now lets try blasting that door off its hinges!!!!!!
