Its conception was brought about at a neighborhood boys and girls club as a pastime for children in the community. U- Neeq was under the instruction of a young lady by the name of Najah Dowdie who was a staff at the boys and girls club at the time. Through the hard work and dedication of Najah Dowdie U- Neeq became the accomplished dance troop that they are today. U-Neeq first made their name as a serious dance troop despite their age as they won the local Malvern Talent Show held annually at Lester B. Pearson Ci. where they ended up in the Toronto Sun newspaper. Ever since then U-Neeq has been tearing up stages with their over the top energy and original routines. By the time the oldest member was 13 U- Neeq had performed on more stages than the sum of all their ages combined. U- Neeq has graced stages in Canada and the United States, and over the years has stayed consistent in giving audiences an entertaining and original show. In the year 2004 the groups’ choreographer stepped down unexpectedly from her role, since that time the group was taken over by member Chaka Comrie with the assistance of Shameka Blake. After 2 years, with minimal shows, focused on hard training U- Neeq is amp’ed and ready to show the world what were made of.
