RELEASE: ‘DON’T DRIVE (FASTER THAN YOUR ANGEL CAN FLY)’
TAKEN FROM THE FORTHCOMING ALBUM “SONGS IN THE KEY OF FUCKâ€
FORMAT: Strictly Ltd Edition 7†Vinyl (200 copies) plus Download
RELEASE DATE: 16th July 2007
LABEL: SUGAR SHACK RECORDS
DISTRIBUTION: SHELLSHOCK
CATALOGUE NO: FOD077
Preceding the release of “Songs In The Key Of Fuck†– Midasuno’s debut full length long-player, comes “Don’t Drive (Faster Than Your Angel Can Fly)†an eclectic and representative statement of intent to tease the masses. Following the release of 2006’s “’Til Death Do Us Partyâ€, the band completed the eagerly-waited “Songs….†in March 2007.
Written during the latter stages of piecing “Songs…†together, the song showcases and confirms Midasuno unwillingness to be musically pinned down by genres. The one trait the song shares with the rest of the Midasuno canon is the mood swings and time changes that are displayed all in the space of 4 minutes whilst still retaining its pop sensibility.
Described by Songwriter Scott Andrews as “Lyrically, my most important piece of work…â€. The song tackles the position of religion in popular culture and displays Andrews’ viciously clear opinion on the contradictions of beliefs in the 21st Century:
“The song is not Anti-Religious, it’s more a questioning of certain beliefs that I Myself find hard to comprehend, and therefore have no baring on my life. The lyrics do elude the idea of it being an angry, uneducated rant, - but the song in fact is a celebration of being a human being – having the right to make your own choice and not having to live your life to a set of rules in the way that religion can govern and control. There is a massive difference between having a set of morals and the understanding of respect for each other – and being brainwashed and controlled in a way that seems really unsettling to me.â€
â€Don’t Drive…†also features The Crimea’s Davey Macmanus, delivering a chaotic diatribe near the songs conclusion. Recording his contribution at No Sun Studios, Camden London – the track was pieced together online - showing Macmanus’s eagerness to be apart of the project:
â€I’d (Scott) played guitar on a track at a Crocketts gig a few years back, and being one of my favourite bands, I tried to stalk and keep in touch with them. Davey joined us onstage during our cover of “Lucifer†at Cardiff’s Compass Point Festival in 2003, and since then the seed was planted with the idea that he might join us on a recording in the future. Being a massive fan of Davey’s songwriting and especially his lyrics – I heard the “Someone’s Crying†(Taken from The Crimea’s “Tragedy Rocks†Album) and realised that the sentiment was lyrically very similar to that of “Don’t Drive….â€. That cemented my idea and having approached him, he kindly accepted and helped contribute to one of the proudest moments I have had since the band started – not a lot of people get to work with their heroes…â€
MEA CULPA
RELEASE: ‘FIRST TO RIPEN’
FORMAT: CD ALBUM
RELEASE DATE: 16th JULY 2007
LABEL: SUGAR SHACK RECORDS
DISTRIBUTION: SHELLSHOCK
CATALOGUE NO: FOD075
Mea Culpa hail from Bristol, South West UK and are one of those bands that never fail to surprise, whether it be their intense live shows or progressive audio releases.
Coming 2nd in Terrorizer magazine’s best unsigned band poll in 2005
(“Mea Culpa are sure to be a head turning act on their way to the next level†– Terrorizer magazine)
Having earned reputable slots with such big name acts as Throwdown, Pig Destroyer, Enter Shikari, Napalm Death and Sick Of It All the band have been touring the UK relentlessly since their birth in 2004 and will continue to do so throughout 2007 into 2008.
Having put out two self recorded EPs via indie label Manmade records (www.manmaderecords.co.uk), Mea Culpa are about to reach fruition with their first full length release “First to Ripen†– twelve tracks of heartfelt aggression and pain, capturing the united sense of purpose that these five men share in the making of climactic, heavy soundscapes.
The epic opener “Pheromones†paves the way for what is to follow; a two-minute blast of noise in “Jealousy is Pitilessâ€, the bi-polar originality of “Prostitutes in Picture frames†and the grand finale “First to Ripen†are amongst the highlights. “First to ripen†is littered with surprises, and the listener is left wondering what could be next for Mea Culpa.
With everything to play for and nothing to lose, Mea Culpa look to take 2007 in their stride, meeting every opportunity with head on force. The first tour of the year is booked for July and dates are being added day by day. Look out for this band in your town, on your radio and in your store – you heard it here first.

“MIDASUNO CRAM SO MANY IDEAS INTO EACH SONG... THE UNDERDOGS ARE BACK" – ROCKSOUNDâ€
Following on from 2006’s “’Til Death Do Us Party†, Midasuno - Merthyr Tydfil’s other favourite sons, release their long awaited full length debut long player – “Songs In The Key Of Fuckâ€. With years of relentless live performances and touring behind them, the band originally entered Nick Lloyd’s Strongbox back in June 2005 to begin work on what would become their first proper length album. The band’s insistence to work with Lloyd came from solitary single day demo session – from which the band found someone who came closer than anyone in helping to achieve their sonic goals. The drive to make this happen was such that it even involved the band struggling free of their record contract at the time to allow the recording to start.
"LOUD, FAST, AND CATCHY AS HELL.." - BIG CHEESE MAGAZINE
Several line-up changes, the search for a label, mental breakdowns, a haphazard recording schedule. dire financial difficulties and even complete relocation of the band’s studio’s premises, “Songs…†proved to become a nightmare project to undertake and complete. 2006 saw the band hastily release some taster material in the shape of “’Til Death Do Us Party†– designed to whet the appetite and allow the band to continue to buy more time to pull all resources together to attempt to finish the record.
â€IMPRESSIVELY COMPLEX AND DOWNRIGHT WEIRD - MONSTER-SOUNDING, AMBITIOUS AND SLICK ENOUGH TO ELEVATE THEM FROM THE LOWER RUNGS OF THE UK ROCK UNDERGROUND†BBC ONLINE
The final notes to tape and mixing took place in April 2007, and has resulted in what the band consider as a true work of art. Adhering to the original idea of writing an album that consisted purely of single worthy material, The notion was carried out and the band believe that “Songs…†sounds almost like a greatest hits collection – all killer, no filler so to speak.
Each song possessing its own identity within the album, showcasing a band with almost too many ideas running wild. From the riffs ‘ n techno amalgam of opener “Sister Temptationâ€, lead single (featuring The Crimea’s Davey Macmanus) “Don’t Drive (Faster Than Your Angel Can Fly)’s metallic disco assault, to the wall of noise during the epic punk finale of “Sleepwalkers†– The music will do the talking for Midasuno. Coupled with the summer release of “Dial M For Merthyr†– Dylan Thomas Literature Award winning author Rachel Trezise’s writings on her time on the road with the band – Midasuno will be attacking from all possible angles. Never drop your guard…..

Anemic return with the astounding rock document, ‘The Void’ in April 2007; an album that will cement their reputation as one of the UK’s most promising hard rock bands.
“We’re trying to bring back that old rock n’ roll attitude that we miss in music today.†states Anemic’s Anglo-American guitarist, Daniel Peters. “We’re not saying you need to act like a dick; just have balls.â€
Anemic have balls.
Having formed in LA in 1999, the band relocated back to the Peters brothers’ birthplace, Bristol when they signed to Sugarshack Records. Losing some of their members along the way, the band persevered. With a new and invigorated line-up started what would become a gargantuan amount of hard graft; relentless touring and the release of no less than four albums in four years.
Over the years the band have honed not only their live show to a tight, dark and mesmerizing hard rock circus, but developed a brand new retro sound that both harks back to the glory days of the late 80s and early 90s, but looks forward to a time when generic screamo bands will have been exposed as the emperor’s new clothes they are.
If you want a hard-working band with balls of steel, who play great rock n’ roll with all the conviction of four religious zealots on MDMA, then look no further…
ANEMIC hit the road on their headline tour in Jan/Feb 2007 and should be heading over to Germany in April as tour support to Across Five Aprils.

AS SILENCE FALLS
RELEASE: ‘As Silence Falls’
FORMAT: CD MINI ALBUM
RELEASE DATE: 22nd JANUARY 2007
LABEL: SUGAR SHACK RECORDS
DISTRIBUTION: SHELLSHOCK
CATALOGUE NO.: FOD071
Sharing the hometowns of Hondo Maclean and Funeral For a Friend and having spent enough time performing alongside the likes of the aforementioned bands who have risen up and out of the thriving South Welsh music scene - As Silence Falls, who are somewhat of a ‘local band super group’ to those in the know are infact a genuine proposition to join the UK’s metal elite.
Gravitating together from the ashes of past embryonic musical attempts, ASF formed with the survivors of bands who as a whole were simply not able to cut it, but the resulting formation has brought together experiences and a new sense of urgency gained from making a myriad of previous mistakes.
Combining influences from the brutality of modern contemporary metal (Chimera, Killswitch Engage) and forging them with the epic melodicism of the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins and Coheed & Cambria, ASF are far from the melting pot of copyists flooding the area – instead the band have opted for a honest amalgam of styles – resulting in what one could say to be a ‘brutifully’ stimulating shot-to-the-arm of a genre currently lacking the amount of depth required to become something truly exciting.
Jan 2007 sees ASF’s call to arms hitting the streets – their self-titled debut 5-track mini album available on Sugar Shack Records. Recorded with acclaimed producer duo Jeff & Ginge (Ex- Skindred / Dub-War) whose work has included Bullet for My Valentine’s ‘The Poison’, at Notting Pill Studios, Newport. ASF have managed to capture a fantastic snapshot of the violent energy each track possesses, and acts as a fantastic primer to a band who truly have only touched upon the tip of their iceberg.
Released January 22nd on Sugar Shack Records.
THE FRANCOS
MIXED UP
FORMAT: CD SINGLE RELEASE DATE: 6th NOVEMBER 2006 LABEL: SUGAR SHACK RECORDS DISTRIBUTION: SHELLSHOCK CATALOGUE NO.: FOD070
Bristol quartet The Franco’s take their name from a local barbershop, however all similarities to close harmony singing, straw hats and bow ties end here. More so a shambolic pile of youthful glory delivering adrenalin injected contagious live shows to capacity audiences across the country, a recent London show drew a request from Pete Docherty for The Franco’s to support in the near future.
MIXED UP is the first offering from the awesome force that is The Franco’s and captures the essence of their wonderfully addictive English pop.
Don’t be surprised if your ears pick up The Zutons, The Coral and Alterkicks, after all charming Scouse front man Pete exudes his native Liverpudlian charm on both record and stage, not another hybrid soon to be among the jaded though, as multi instrumentalist (seven in total!) Ed brings verve and sparkle to the song writing whilst driving the band live with his rhythmic powerhouse drumming.
The Franco’s song writing also nods to the varied influences within the band; names such as Johnny Cash, Dylan, The Beach Boys, Nick Drake, Arctic Monkeys and The Clash are often passed around over the odd beer.
The Franco’s have graced the stage alongside Larrikin Love, Vincent Vincent, Bromheads Jacket, Alterkicks and The Paddingtons.
The release of MIXED UP sees The Franco’s take to the road again in October including support shows to The Noisettes, Larrikin Love and Alterkicks.
The Franco’s are the new light in British Pop, go to the light!
Mixed Up is released on November 6th on Sugar Shack Records.

TIL DEATH DO US PARTY
FORMAT: CD MINI ALBUM
RELEASE DATE: 24th JULY 2006
LABEL: SUGAR SHACK RECORDS
DISTRIBUTION: SHELLSHOCK
CATALOGUE NO.: FOD068
With the never-ending wave of simpering, uninspired "emo" ear-sores and identikit New York-via Camden Indie sound-a-likes, Merthyr Tydfil's MIDASUNO return with brand new Mini Album 'Til Death Do Us Party. their follow-up to 2003s When Bulls Play God (Metal Hammer (8/10), Rock Sound (7/10), Terrorizer (8/10) Big Cheese Magazine (4/5), BBC Music Online (4/5) to remind people the true meaning of the term 'Alternative'.
Following a number of line-up changes and label based struggles, the band have a new label and new sound and have prepared 2006s release - the outfits first in almost three years, as a stunning statement of intent a massive aural fuck you and thank you to the forces that have surrounded the bands seemingly ever fateful campaign to stay afloat in rock's current climate whilst dignity and integrity remaining intact.
18 Months of extensive toilet circuit touring (sharing stages with Perfect Circle, Cave-In, The Wildhearts, Funeral For A Friend and Katastrophy Wife along the way) allowed the band to hit the studio and re-create themselves, armed with experience and a greater creative palette than before (The addition of Lyndon Jones - performing Keyboards / FX / Samples and Guitarist/ Vocalist Chris Morgan) - resulting in the band's most visceral yet digestible recordings to date.
Recorded at Strongbox Studios based in Penarth, Cardiff with Nick Lloyd (Sparks Lights & Flames, Dirty Perfect), 'Til Death... features A Machine; The Rhythm Thief which appeared as a demo version on Rock Sound magazines Music With Attitude monthly compilation and bagged the "Best Track" vote, and "The Law of Tooth & Fang" - both taken from the bands forthcoming debut album, alongside 3 tracks exclusive to the release.
The band are preparing for "'Til Death..."'s co-inciting tour, and will be returning to the studio to complete work on the bands long-awaited forthcoming debut long-player Songs In The Key Of Fuck , set to drop Winter 2006.
LEFT SIDE BRAIN
ACTION POTENTIAL
NEW ALBUM RELEASED 10th APRIL 2006
Anglo-Welsh rockers Left Side Brain return with their bruising and belligerent second album, 'Action Potential'.
This is the follow-up to the band's critically-acclaimed 2004 debut, 'Equal and Opposite', to which:
Kerrang! awarded "KKKK... The kind of band that gives you hope for the UK underground scene".
Metal Hammer called it "Superb...8/10".
Big Cheese awarded a 4/5 rating.
Singles 'Fallout' and 'Clout' were lifted from 'Equal and Opposite', both garnering national radio play (including Radio 1), the videos of which were playlisted on Kerrang! TV and Scuzz.
Aided once again by producer Neal Calderwood (The Answer, The Mascara Story, Fighting With Wire, Throat plus Therapy?s Andy Cairns & Clutchs Neil Fallon), 'Action Potential' provides the truest representation yet of LSB's carniverously cavernous live sound. Mr. Calderwood is a man that understands the word 'LOUD', as does Reuben mainman Jamie Lenman, who contributes his inimitable guest vocals on 'Save Yourself' (track 7).
Eschewing dreary Emo populism and the revival of spindly Brit fashion-rock, LSB's philosophy has always been to serve up the kind of riotous riff and melody bombardment that leaves you reeling, regardless of whether or not you're sporting the latest black fringe. Echoing the punch and the principles of Kerbdog or Helmet in their prime, 'Action Potential' furthers this simple, inclusive manifesto.
'Action Potential' will be preceded by a single, 'Exit Route', released in early March. The band will be touring extensively throughout 2006, hammering UK venues into submission with their Real Rock Deal.

I AM THE DOOR
I|AM|THE|DOOR
FORMAT: CD MINI ALBUM
RELEASE DATE: TO BE CONFIRMED ( OCT PROBABLY )
LABEL: SUGAR SHACK RECORDS
DISTRIBUTION: SHELLSHOCK
CATALOGUE NO.: FOD 069
I|AM|THE|DOOR are a band defying stereotypes through a rare honesty and an intelligent and sensitive use of musical talent and expression. They have now developed their own unique sound which does not allow them to be easily generalized.
With a strong development strategy in place and an abundance of determination and excellent musicianship, I|AM|THE|DOOR have grown in every way. The intensive work they have undertaken in the last year has produced a band that can stand up to anything thrown at them. And their commitment to their art argues a continual and infinite maturing in both style and depth, whipping up a storm in the name of musical progress. From ballads to punk anthems, the band refuses self-imposed boundaries.
Attempts at that terrible human affliction of pigeon-holing have led to I|AM|THE|DOOR being given various labels, most of which include the words punk and emo. However, on listening to their ever-expanding catalogue of music, it is apparent that there is a lot more to this band than labels. Each member brings to the band a musical perspective of his own, and they combine to create a perfect fusion of the elements of punk, jazz, dance, metal, rock and pop.
Their first demo (Shine Through) was submitted to Radio 1s OneMusic Unsigned in the summer of 2004 and reached number 3 in the chart. With generous industry tracking and a host of high quality support slots (Keiko (tour), Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, The Zico Chain, Battle, My Lumineries, Fortune Drive) the future seems to hold promise. There is an unlimited scope as to where the band will be in the future.
This record was recorded over the course of 2 years, and displays the variation and depth to I|AM|THE|DOORs unique sound. This will be followed by more studio time over the summer of 2006 coinciding with a 2 week tour in August.
