About Me

Myspace Contact TablesI'm half American, half European. Dad's from Costa Rica, mum from Barcelona.
I luv music, I luv luv. Music is my reason 2 live, a gift from God 2 heal people. Make somebody happy, make somebody strong.
Music's always been an important part of my life. At 13 I started takin' guitar lessons for 2 years, then I began learnin' on my own and I'm still learnin'...
I think music is an art form, its purpose is healing each and ev'ry one of us through notes, feeling, groove, rhythms... that's why my main influences are musicians who focus on the spiritual and the mystical side of music. As a guitar player and composer I feel very close to Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Also, people like Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Bob Marley fill a very important place in my life and my music... I've been lucky to meet and work with Sal Solo (former Classix Nouveaux lead vocalist) who's been a true influence not only on my music but my life as well.
My first gig was in 1986 with a band called "Es Otra Historia" (It's another tale). In 1988 I formed another band "Edelweiss" with Santi Amaro on drums, Chesco DoMingus on bass and vocals and Pitch on trumpet. In 1990 we split up and I went solo, well trio actually...(guitar/vox, bass/vox [Chesco DoMingus] and drums [José Luís Pacheco / Javi Ochoa]), later my sister Iolanda joined us on vocals. In 1995 I bought my drum machine... The current HG line-up consists of Hèctor Gilberto on vox, guitar and programming, my wife Marta Traveria on vox, patience, inspiration, arrangements, percussion..., Irene Granados on vocals and percussion along with Pitch on trumpet.
We play wherever we're invited to. Once a year I always play at Sala Vivaldi in Barcelona. You can also meet me on Tuesdays and Sundays at Jazz Sí Club - Taller de Músics Jam Sessions (Requesens 2, Barcelona) and some Wednesdays at Big Band Bar Jam Sessions (Botella 7, Barcelona). Over the years I've played in Barcelona and surroundings, in 1992 I played in The Netherlands (although as a bass player).
