Although vocal coach Paul Stuart Davies has been writing songs for well over a decade, it has taken the songs on “Someone Else’s Smile” to finally make a debut album. “I wanted to create an album where every song deserved its place” says Paul. “There aren’t many albums out there that don’t have a few filler tracks. I wanted SES to be the kind of album where each person’s favourite song could easily be a different track to the next person.”The album began in May 2005, when Paul wrote “Guiding Light” shortly after moving into his new Darwen home. In 2006, Paul’s seperation from his wife led to a period of constant song writing and a mini album taster “Home for the First Time” was produced, including “Guiding Light”, “I’ll Never Change”, “Someone Else’s Smile” and the title track.Later in the year, Paul recorded “Shake off the Rain”, “Song 4 Dreamers” (featuring the voice of 14 year old Meg Ellison), and “Innocent Mistake”.Not wanting the album to be too downbeat, “Effortless” and “By Tomorrow” were written in the summer of 2007. “Now I feel I have the right selection of songs to allow an album to be made!” Paul says. “I had been thinking that it was maybe time to concentrate on coaching singers and leave chasing the dream to them.
