Agent L & Prajna met by chance in early 2002 and through a mutual appreciation for good beer and the UK breaks sound, decided to begin an internet radio show. Thus Bass Pressure Radio was conceived and began broadcasting in Feb 2002. The goal behind BPR was to spread the breaks sound being pushed by artists like Rennie Pilgrem and Adam Freeland, as well as labels like Botchit and Disuye. Each show was broadcast live every Saturday at 3PM US Central time out of an apartment in North Dallas, running roughly 5 hours and featuring solo mixes from both DJs, as well as a tagging session. Many upon many beers were consumed over the months and became a neccesity for the show.
Eventually the idea of bringing in locals DJs for guest mixes came up and BPR was opened to DJs in the D/FW area. Genre was no boundary and the radio show featured mixes representing many different styles of electronic music; eventually, over 50 guests performed live on Bass Pressure. The website was launched in the spring of 2002 and interviews began in the summer, with early chats featuring the likes of Dan F, Steve Gerrard and Backdraft. Agent L & Prajna began gigging out around Dallas in the summer of 2002 and played out live throughout the rest of BPR. They performed at many of the clubs around Dallas, other radio shows and one in-store appearance that resulted in 3 of the 4 speakers in the shop being blown.
Throughout 2003 and 2004 Agent L & Prajna worked on the radio show and building the website's content. In time, over 50 artists were interviewed and include the likes of the Freestylers, Rennie Pilgrem, the Lawgiverz, Jason Sparks, Future Funk Squad, the Mechanoise crew, Aquasky and many others. BPR attracted a growing audience throughout Dallas and the stream was logged onto from around the world. The number of pre-recorded guest mixes sent in from DJs swelled to over 20 and featured artists like Deep Impact, Kraymon and NuBreed. Fall of 2003 saw a relocation of BPR to Fair Park and the studio mix "BP4" was completed around Christmas and is the only tag team studio mix issued. Feb 2004 saw a gig for Agent L & Prajna opening for Chris Carter and the Carbon Community at Club Seven and the duo were fortunate to have Chris appears live on air the next day on BPR for a smashing 2 hour set.
Bass Pressure Radio continued to soldier on through the beginning of 2005, but by May Agent L had decided that things had run their course and stepped out of the picture. Accordingly, the radio show ended after a run of over three years and Prajna is continuing with the Bass Pressure website, albeit with a different focus from the original BP site.
The new and redeisgned Bass Pressure site has shifted the focus from the radio show to becoming a source of information on breakbeat-based music, mainly Breaks, Hip Hop and Jungle/DnB. This will be accomplished through interviews with DJs, producers and labelheads from all three genres, as well as mixes celebrating the breakbeat and exploring new terrain. BP also plans on integrating contributions from players throughout the scenes in the form of opinion and tech articles, as well as music reviews and any other good shit that comes up.
