Brown Rice Family

The most natural way is the most civilized way

About Me

It all started when Yuichi (djembe) introduced Joe (vocal) to eating organic brown rice in 2005. Joe was so inspired by Yuichi’s delicious brown rice that he bought the expensive electronic pressure rice cooker so that he can eat brown rice every day. That same year, Joe and Yuichi enrolled to Sonic Arts Center (SAC) at City College, CUNY as audio engineering students. Prior to enrolling to SAC, Yuichi had been a disciplined and passionate student of many rhythms of the world. Focusing on djembe, he learned and performed with Jeremiah Iriemiah, master drummer from Jamaica and Dr. Djobi, master drummer from Ivory Coast. During this time, Joe became a big fan of I & I Drumlink (Jeremiah) and the music of Dr. Djobi and allowed their rhythms to free his mind and soul. Realizing the power of rhythm, Joe also began to learn Poongmul (Korean Traditional Folk Drum & Dance) from HanOol Poongmul Crew in Flushing. These two young students didn’t waste any time when they found themselves in the same studio almost every day. On the first day they were allowed to use the studio, they recorded “I Feel Like Dancing” a song which Joe wrote on top of dancehall rhythms he heard from I & I Drumlink. Ideas and inspirations overflowed ever since and Brown Rice Family kept fusing rhythms and styles to produce fresh, full and nutricious music. The Brown Rice Family learned that inspirations for positive music come from positive way of life. The Brown Rice Family seek to learn and follow the truthful ways of nature and to promote her ways through music. Brown Rice Family LLC was founded in 2007 in order to finance their life and music. The Brown Rice Family will soon open for business selling music, organic grains & beans, and organic handmade soaps.
