About Me

It all began in 1997 with a hanging microphone in a closet and a bunch of instrumentals. That was the professional beginning of the group that would become Rushya. Within a year, they had their first release, Rushya Sector 0-21-19, which initiated their commercial career. They also hold the distintion of being the first rap group to perform at the nationally renowned Symphony Hall. The group is Rushya, a name taken from their Roxburry neighborhood. Jamaal "BostonTown Bang" Greaves and Christopher "Robert Wrath" Williams comprise this amazing duo. The Russian insignia of the hammer and the sickle which form the “R” is their logo and represents their aggressive assault on the industry. They are Roxbury’s very own breed of hip hop.In 2001, they released a uniquely independent album with another Boston area group PhastLife. Together they released Rushya/PhastLife Compilation Volume One. The intention of this album was to let the New England area know that these artists are coming and that they plan to bring Boston back. This unique collaboration was a huge success. The album which was available in all the major retail stores in the New England Area including Tower Records, Strawberries, Funky Fresh, High Voltage and Skippy Whites sold an amazing 10,000 units the first week, and a steady 4,000 per week thereafter. The compilation became a regional smash. It was the #1 album in the Northeast region, ranked #71 in Billboard Magazine’s Hip-Hop/R&B albums with a bullet. It was #3 on the Pacesetters’ list. All this was powered by Rushya’s hit single “Oh Fa Sho”.After taking a brief hiatus, Rushya is back and ready to reestablish themselves as a powerhouse group. This time they plan to take their movement nationwide.Having established autonomy, they maintain artistic and street credibility.Their music appeals to hip-hop purists, critics and the commercial audience. Back by popular demand, this winter, Rushya is returning to their roots with Scars & Stripes, another joint venture with PhastLife. The album as a whole focuses on the every day struggles and events in Roxbury life while emphasizes the accompanying growth and strength of Rushya as a group. Where there is pain, there is progress!
