TAFF is Irish Producer and DJ Brian Taaffe.
Born in a country renown for its reputation in producing amazing performers and songwriters, it is no wonder Brian Taaffe began his musical career at such a young age.
Growing up in Dublin, Ireland, Taff was constantly immersed in a diverse culture of traditional Irish, popular and more recently, hip-hop and rock music. Yet it was Taff’s interest in pirate radio and its influence on the underground scene in Ireland that First introduced him to the world of dance music.
‘Judge Jules’ and ‘The Prodigy’ unknowingly hold the honor of being some of the early influences on Taff’s music and his interest only grew with his collection of ‘Ministry of Sound’ Albums.
At the tender age of 16 Taff was united with his first set of Belt Drive Tables and vinyl’s and it wasn’t long before he began mixing mainstream dance. Continuously being inspired by new influences – Eric Morrillo and Frankie Nuckles, Taff began to take more direction in his music and became more focused on the ‘House’ Genre.
His confidence quickly grew with regular gigs at local house parties and it was no surprise when his first real break arrived whilst banging out at Club MONO, a Session enjoyed by an enormous college crowd every Wednesday night.
Encouraged by friend and fellow DJ, James ‘Slim Jim’ Cullen, Taff revamped his style changing towards even harder edge music and with the additional influence of the late Tony de Vit, ventured down the path towards the Hard House genre.
Exposing himself once again on the airwaves of KISS FM proved yet another stepping stone for Taff while appearing as a guest on DJ Slim-Jim’s “Xtreme†show.
Taff’s musical abilities gained even more strength when he went on to study music for two years at Pulse Recording College and wrapped up his diploma when he Emerged as a trio with Slim-Jim and John Kerrigan, forcing their way right into the underground scene to form their own record label.
Three releases later and countless plays by UK DJ’s Paul Glazby, BK, Justin Bourne and Ian M, the label parted ways. Taff suddenly found himself in London and along with Jim, their fresh talent and the London ‘Underground’ - they found a bright new scene to Conquer!
Working hard in London, Taff and Slim-Jim succeeded in making alliances and collaborations and made many appearances in hard hitting venues such as The Fridge, Brixton Academy and Purple Turtle.
But alas, music is diverse and is constantly changing. The hard dance moved on - as did Taff. Change saw him resort back to his traditional funky roots and embark down a more techno path. Inspired by Dj’s Carl Cox , Ignition Technician, Umek and Valentino Kanzyani, Taff suddenly knew the route he was destined to follow.
With even more experience behind him, making the move back home to Dublin meant that Taff took another leap towards mastering the DJ scene in Ireland.
Borrowing elements from Funk, Electric, House and occasionally European and Worldly influences there is no doubt that Taff has created an unmistakable style and unique flavor in his music. Broadcasting each week from PULSE FM Taff continues to push his way up in the Underground music circle and having played at four R3VOLUTION gigs at the Vaults alongside big names including Lady B, Ignition Technician, D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Dave Randal, Lucca, John Gibbons and Umek, Taff has certainly become a familiar name in the Irish Techno scene.
Now a resident at R3VOLUTION and HUSH -both at the Vaults, Taff continues to pump his way down the avenue of success.
With his first techno release upon him, Taff looks set for big things in the near future.
