GLOBAL HIP HOP CULTURE. .. THE KNOWLEDGE IS POWER ...
My Hip Hop education began in 1987, mimicking electric boogie moves on Kraftwerk€™s Electric Café cybernetic beats. I drew inspiration from everything around me, from 80s TV shows to reportage, magazines, TV ads and movies. At the same time I discovered the world of electrofunk, thanks to Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force, Shango and Whodini among others: obscure funk rhythms, heavy drum machines and obsessive beat box sessions would mold my musical taste forever. I was able to interpret the Hip Hop essence of that music through the guide of the Superfly crew (NYC) and Zulu Crew. The movie Beat Street changed my perspective forever: the famous Roxi battle opened up new horizons and pushed my creativity and passion to the next level. B-boy pioneers such as NYC Breakers, Rock Steady Crew, Magnificent Force, Dynamic Rockers and Pop-O-Matics helped me developing my style towards more complex form of top rock and footwork. Wild Style made my understanding of style even clearer, watching Ken Swift€™s footworks and the performances of legendary South Bronx mc€™s such as Chief Rocker Busy Bee, Cold Crush Brothers, and Fantastic Five. The first TV appearances of Italian b-boy Next One were another milestone in my stylistic growth as a breaker: they allowed me to further refine my stance, rotations and move towards a more €œgroove€“oriented€? approach to dance. My trips abroad made the pressure to perfect my moves skyrocket. At the same time writing was becoming increasingly central important: I started studying my lettering drawing inspiration from the Paris old school (Bando, Chrome Angels), eventually getting closer to Munich and Basel wildstyle. The combination of multiple influences and a personal twist gave birth to the "3 Spirit" style. Thanks to years of training and battling I achieved good notoriety at a national level. Unfortunately a bad accident slowed down my career and made me turn my attention to djing and producing. My love for vinyl and my constant pursuit of new sounds and rhythms allowed me to discover artists, genres and tunes that I had often overlooked. My b-boy experience was all of a sudden turned into music, all my productions carrying the roots of the grooves and flavors. Today my musical research is focused on obscure breakbeats with funk, soul, jazz, african grooves, Hip hop and electro contaminations. Peace Paolo "Swift"
