Join MyCityRocks at the Trash The Dress Party Saturday June 14 @ Hard Rock Cafe!
I want to invite you to the next MyCityRocks-sponsored event in Houston... a Trash The Dress party and photo shoot on Saturday, June 14th benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation .

The Hard Rock Cafe Houston , Photography Studios along with Cimo Productions and MyCityRocks HOUSTON are proud to present this FAMILY oriented all-ages event with no cover charge.

The party takes place that Saturday evening at Hard Rock Cafe Houston (502 Texas Avenue, 77002) at 9:00 pm. Live music will be provided by a variety of bands, including the rock band Tame Fury and up and coming rapper Dylan McVey. We will have additional details for you on the bands next week. You'll also be able to bid on a variety of donated items, including some MyCityRocks gear, with the funds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

You are also welcome to come out earlier if you wish to see the "Trash The Dress" photo shoot that starts at 5:30 pm at the Wortham Center fountains by Bayou Place. At a "Trash the Dress" photoshoot, brides create their True Love Stories by bypassing tradition and opting for a new trend of trashing their dresses post-wedding. True love only comes around once and trashing the dress solidifies the union of 2 becoming 1. It's an attempt not to destroy the dress, but an attempt to create something new.

I hope you can join us June 14th for this great event supporting a great cause!

My Interests

Houston Rocks!

One of our friends wrote us a note:

"Are there any posters or flyers i can upload onto my profile so that i can represent throughout myspace. u should make a "I LOVE MyCityRocksHOUSTON" myspace sticker so that ppl can upload the code for it and just put it in their interests section....this is something i would love to do!!! i wanna help promote!!! but how?"

So we came up with a graphic and some code... and you are welcome to use it too.

Copy this code into your profile:

That should do it! It should look like this:

ROCK SAFE

We all want to have fun, but we want to do it SAFELY. We see and hear stories of tragedy related to women and young teens in the news every week... many of which could have so easily been avoided.

The ROCK SAFE program was created to use social engagement technology to help educate our friends on how to be safe in their social networking activities. In particular, ROCK SAFE addresses several areas:
How you can party safe while still having fun.

What you can do if you find yourself in an abusive relationship, and what options you have to get help.

How you can protect your identity to avoid unwanted attention from individuals who might pursue or stalk you inappropriately.

What young male and female teens can do if inappropriately approached by a potential predator.

The Bridge Over Troubled Waters is a non-profit crisis center based in the Houston area that helps individuals suffering from relationship abuse with counseling and resources. Through our association with The Bridge, we will be providing our members ROCK SAFE tips on an ongoing basis through our newsletters and Web site. We are also planning our first ROCK SAFE event for this summer in Houston, combining music with community education in a way that really ROCKS.AddMe Cards are an important piece of the ROCK SAFE program. AddMe Cards provide a means for people to give others that they meet a way to contact them without giving out sensitive personal information.

ROCK SAFE is planned to reach out into our communities and our schools everywhere that MyCityRocks reaches. We welcome inquiries from potential ROCK SAFE partners around the world, as well as from businesses and individuals who are interested in getting some mileage from being ROCK SAFE sponsors and contributors. It is all about educating and protecting our kids and loved ones so they can enjoy another sunrise. Please let us know if you would like to get involved.

Avoiding danger: Keeping your profile and blog SAFE
Creating a profile on a networking or dating site can be a fun way to make new friends and share with others the things in life which you are passionate about. And creating a blog can enable you to share your experiences with others as well.

At the same time, it is important to remember that normally most anyone can read your profile or blog. Everyone who views your profile or blog may not be a nice person. Making information about yourself public can provide an opening to stalkers, predators, and others who might use the information which you provide to cause harm to you or those who you care about.

Remember that knowledge is power. Each time you post information about yourself, think about whether or not someone could use that information to cause you harm.

Here are some recommendations for keeping your profile and blog safe:

Unless you are a public figure or you are blogging in a business context, never post your last name on your profile, and don't include it in the email address you use for social purposes either. Posting your last name makes it much easier for stalkers to find you. Don't put your last name in your screen name. Don't put your last name in your profile URL. Also make sure you are using an email address that doesn't give away your last name.

Don't post other personal information such as your address, phone number, email address or IM screen names either. If you meet someone and want them to have that information, then it is easy enough to give it to them... but don't post it publicly so anyone can have access to it.

Don't post information about where you work, hang out regularly, or go to school, particularly if you are of high school age or younger. We know you take pride in your school and company, but posting that kind of information can make it easier for stalkers to find you.

Don't post photographs of your children, and certainly NEVER disclose their names. If a stalker or predator knows the name of your child and what they look like, it makes it MUCH easier for them to gain their trust when approaching them in order to cause them or you harm.

Review all of your photos as well as your text. We all want others to think of us as being sexy and desirable. Still, it is important to think about the messages being given off in the photographs which you post, and whether those photographs might encourage others to engage in behaviors which you might not welcome. It is also important to review each photograph you post to make sure it doesn't accidentally disclose any personal information... for example, a photograph of you standing in front of your house might inadvertently disclose the street number of your dwelling or other information that would make it much easier for someone to find you.

Don't mislead people into thinking you are older or younger than you really are. If you do, it could encourage others to try to interact with you in a manner that is inappropriate.

Don't post things that could embarrass you later, or which others could use to blackmail you. It is so easy for anyone to do a screen grab on your page, and then store it away for use at a later date, even long after you have deleted it from your profile. Remember that someone that is your best friend today could turn out to be your worst enemy tomorrow.

Whenever posting personal information about yourself, ask yourself what you gain by making that information public, and whether the benefits of disclosing the information outweigh any potential risks. Talking about your favorite music album would usually be pretty safe, while disclosing where you hang out every Thursday night would carry greater risk. Only you can decide what risks are acceptable for yourself.

Also think about getting some AddMe Cards to use when you are out socializing in person. These cards contain a link to your MySpace profile without giving out any personal information beyond your first name or screen name. We created these cards as a way to help people to socialize safely. If you use the cards and follow the tips outlined above, it should decrease your risks significantly.

Please READ IF YOU ARE THINKING OF LEAVING A COMMENT: We love comments that talk about what you like (or even don't like) about HOUSTON. We never approve band or event promotional comments on this profile (although, if they are Houston related, you are welcome to post them in the MyCityRocks HOUSTON MySpace Group ). IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MyCityRocks PROMOTING YOUR EVENT, DROP US A MYSPACE MESSAGE AND ASK US ABOUT OUR EVENT PROMOTIONAL SERVICES. We will often do one free bulletin repost of a local art or music event at the request of the artist if they send us a MySpace mail message and ask us to post it the week of the event. Comments along the lines of "Thanks for the Add.", "What's Up.", "You girls are sure hot.", and clip art linking to another site are likely not going to be approved anymore. Thanks!!!
