Frank Gomez was born July 23, 1954 in Columbus, Georgia. The son of an Army Chief Warrant Officer, Frank lived around the world with his parents, two brothers and sister. He began his musical career at the age of 10, playing guitar and singing in military base service clubs with his two younger brothers, Joe on drums and Danny on bass.
Initially influenced by renowned recording artists such as James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Ben E. King, Frank quickly mastered the soul vibe on his guitar. He also learned to play keyboard and saxophone and continued playing with his brothers for the next 35 years, moving to Austin, Texas in 1976.
In the 70's Frank and his brothers adapted the styles of Santana, Curtis Mayfield, Average White Band, Al Green, Marvin Gaye and popular Motown artists. Their band, then known as Deep Heet, added a funk and disco flavor to their shows as they played throughout Texas and California until Frank’s brothers retired from the music business in 1998.
Frank’s smooth voice and soulful guitar have been a part of opening acts for headliners such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Drifters, O.C. Smith, Eric Johnson, The Sherelles, Phillip Walker, W.C. Clark and Marvin Sease. After several years of fronting local Austin bands, Frank stepped out on his own with a unique blend of R&B, funk, blues, classic oldies and Tex-Mex music. He entertains audiences in his hometown of Austin and across the State of Texas.
In 2007 the Gomez brothers reunited once again to record with Frank on his new CD "Under the Influence" which is comprised of his own originals and popular covers. Produced by Max Baca at Blue Cat Studios in San Antonio, the CD was released in the Summer of 2007. A new music video for the popular Tex-Mex tune "Hey Sarita" was recently released in 2008. Both projects feature guest appearances by Tejana sweetheart Stefani Montiel from the popular San Antonio bands "Lush" and "Las Tres Divas" and Grammy Award Winners Ruben Ramos, Flaco Jimenez, Max Baca and Augie Meyers.
